3rd Hohenlimburg Lennelauf

A Run Through a Piece of Industrial History

Hohenlimburg is a district in the south of Hagen, characterized by the Lenne river and its industrial past as a steel and wire production site. Hohenlimburg Castle towers over the town — the only hilltop castle in the Sauerland still inhabited by its original family (Bentheim-Tecklenburg). It is precisely in this interplay between castle romance and industrial heritage that the Hohenlimburger Lennelauf has taken place since 2024. 2026 marks the 3rd edition.

The Course — Flat, Asphalted, Scenic

The circuit starts from Lennepark and runs along both sides of the Lenne, mostly on asphalt paths. With only slight inclines, the course is ideal for personal bests — and at the same time scenically attractive: past the Stenglingser Wehr, old iron hammer chimneys, and bridges that have been in service for decades.

• 10.8 km (Main run, start 3:00 PM)
• 5.4 km (Start 2:00 PM)
• 5.4 km Walking (Start 4:30 PM) — also Nordic Walking
• 1.24 km Children's Run for children and teenagers

The short main distance (10.8 km instead of the usual 10 km) is a tribute to the exact course length along the Lenne — the organizer deliberately does not round up.

Hagen Running Cup — The Ranking

The Lennelauf is part of the Hagen Running Cup 2026, a series of local Hagen club runs. Those who complete several runs (exact ranking conditions at concordia-hagen.de) collect cup points and can be awarded at the end of the year. The organizer is the Elseyer Turnverein 1881 e.V. — one of the oldest sports clubs in southern Hagen, with its home ground in the Elsey district, right next to Hohenlimburg.

Rules Suited to the Course

As the course partly runs through public paths, clear rules apply: No spikes (damage to asphalt), no dogs (safety and pace), and the run takes place in all weather conditions. Registration is online via SEPA direct debit; late registration on-site up to 30 minutes before the start (cash plus €3 surcharge). Changing rooms, showers, and toilets on-site.

Hagen and Running

Hagen, with almost 190,000 inhabitants, has a surprisingly active running scene: Hagen Running Cup, Hagen Half Marathon, Concordia Fun Run — a series of established events supported by the dedication of local clubs like Concordia-Hagen and Elseyer Turnverein 1881. The Lennelauf is a relatively new addition but has already secured a firm place in the calendar with its beautiful course profile.
