Hohenlimburg — Hagen district with castle heritage

Hohenlimburg has been a southeastern district of Hagen since 1975, but culturally, the formerly independent town retains its own identity. With its Hohenlimburg Castle above the Lenne river, its historic town center, and the forests on the edge of the Sauerland, it has retained the charm of a small town to this day. The annual Lenneparkfest is one of the most important events in the district's calendar — supported by the CDU local association Hohenlimburg, but as a voluntary civic family festival without political coloring of the program.

Two days of family program

The Lenneparkfest typically runs over the 3rd weekend in June — in 2026, this is expected to be June 20/21. Location: the Lennepark Hohenlimburg, a green park area on the banks of the Lenne, in the middle of Hohenlimburg.

Saturday — Lennelauf and Live Music in the Evening

The day begins with the Lennelauf (see below). In the afternoon, the first stalls are set up, the bouncy castle is erected, and tastings at the farmers' market stall begin. Late-night shopping on Saturday evening in Hohenlimburg-Mitte (shops in the historic town center open longer). Live music on the Lennepark stage in the evening — in recent years, among others, the cover band "Küppers, Becks und Brinkhoffs".

Sunday — Farmers' Market, Flea Market, Family Program

Church service in the morning to kick things off. Then farmers' market with regional producers (farm products, fruit, vegetables, cheese, honey, sausage), children's flea market (toys, children's books, clothes), bouncy castle, tombola with prizes, and the stage program running until the afternoon. The Kanu Club Hohenlimburg is usually involved with taster sessions on the Lenne.

Lennelauf — three routes from Elseyer Turnverein

The Lennelauf is held parallel to the festival — a running event by Elseyer Turnverein with three distances:

• 1.2 km (pupils/juniors)
• 5.4 km (fun run distance)
• 10.8 km (main race)

Atmosphere

The Lenneparkfest is a district festival in its most original form: It is not big, not loud, not touristy. It is a meeting point for the people of Hohenlimburg and their neighbors, organized by volunteers. The mix of family program, farmers' market, and running event makes it one of the most versatile district events in southern Hagen. A great choice for a day out for families with small children from Hagen and the western Sauerland.
