Traditional district festival in Hohenlimburg's town centre with opening by the marksmen's club
From July 11th to 13th, 2026, the Hohenlimburg city centre will transform into a three-day festival mile. The Hohenlimburg City Festival is a well-established tradition — for almost four decades, the marksmen's opening with cannon shots from the Möller Monument has kicked off the first weekend in July.
A special feature that sets the Hohenlimburg City Festival apart from others: it begins with a marksmen's ceremony. The local marksmen's club opens the festival with cannon shots from the Möller Monument — a prominent monument above the town. This is followed by the traditional beer barrel tapping, which ushers in the social part of the festival.
The Möller Monument commemorates Eduard Möller, an important Hohenlimburg industrialist of the 19th century. It stands elevated above the town and offers an impressive view from the slope. The annual cannon shots from the monument can be heard far beyond the district's borders — an acoustic signal that opens the city festival.
The district of Hagen-Hohenlimburg (approx. 27,000 inhabitants) is located in the south of the independent city of Hagen (North Rhine-Westphalia) and has been part of Hagen since the administrative reform in 1975. However, it retains its own identity — with its own town centre, the historic Hohenlimburg Castle, the Lenne valley, and a distinct club structure. The city festival has been the highlight of the district year here for decades.
A special feature of the district: Hohenlimburg Castle, one of the few surviving hilltop castles in Westphalia, towers over the Lenne valley. The castle now houses a museum focusing on the cold rolling history of Hohenlimburg's industrial operations. During the city festival, the castle attracts additional visitors.
Three festival days in Hohenlimburg's town centre: Friday marksmen's opening with cannon shots from the Möller Monument and beer barrel tapping; Saturday main festival day with live music; Sunday with Sunday shopping and family program.
Free admission. Food and drinks at daily prices.
Hagen-Hohenlimburg train station (S5 and RE8 from Hagen, Iserlohn, Dortmund), then a short walk to the town centre. By car: A45 exit Hagen-Süd, then follow signs for Hohenlimburg. Parking available on the outskirts — town centre closed during the festival.
Free admission. Food and drinks at daily prices.
Friday evening with cannon shots from the Möller Monument is particularly atmospheric. Saturday evening features the main musical program. Sunday with Sunday shopping is the main visitor day for families.
