Sunday shopping in the historic town centre below Hohenlimburg Castle
When the first warm Sundays arrive after a long winter, the Hohenlimburg Business Association invites you to the Spring Market. On Sunday, April 19, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., the pedestrian zone of the historic Hagen district becomes a spring stage — market stalls between the half-timbered buildings, shops with extended opening hours, snacks, and garden furniture exhibitions.
The Spring Market is one of four Sundays with extended shopping hours that Hagen offers in 2026: City Centre on May 10 (Hagen blüht auf) and December 13 (Christmas Market), Hohenlimburg district on April 19 (Spring Market) and September 27 (Autumn Market). On all four Sundays, the uniform opening hours are 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Hohenlimburg, a district of Hagen since the municipal reform of 1975, has retained its independent character. The historic town centre with its half-timbered houses is one of the best-preserved in Westphalia. High above the town sits Hohenlimburg Castle — the only inhabited hilltop castle in Westphalia and one of the few castles still inhabited by an aristocratic family today. The castle museum, along with the German Cold Rolling Mill Museum, is a cultural flagship of the district.
The Spring Market has established itself as a family Sunday. The market stalls offer plants, spring decorations, regional handicrafts, and snacks. The shops in Hohenlimburg's town centre — from fashion boutiques to bookstores and toy shops — present their spring and summer collections. Restaurants and cafés open their outdoor terraces, weather permitting.
For those coming with family: Hohenlimburg is located at the entrance to the Lenne Valley and offers wonderful hiking options. A short tour leads from the market square up to the castle (approx. 20 minutes on foot), a longer one through the Reher Heide nature reserve. The city archive and industrial monuments (Hohenlimburg Cold Rolling Mills) tell the industrial history of the district.
The traditional spring Sunday shopping event by the Hohenlimburg Business Association — with market stalls, open shops, snacks, and spring atmosphere in the half-timbered town centre below Hohenlimburg Castle.
