City Festival in the District Town of Heinsberg

The Heinsberg City Festival is the most important summer city festival in the district town in the far west of North Rhine-Westphalia. On Monday, July 20, 2026, the city center of Heinsberg will be transformed into an open festival mile with a musical program, a food truck series, and a family atmosphere. Admission is free – a typical Rhenish-style city festival.

Heinsberg – The District Town in the Tri-border Area

Heinsberg is the district town of the Heinsberg district – located directly on the border with the Netherlands (Roermond is 20 km away). The city with its approximately 42,000 inhabitants is an administrative and shopping center for a predominantly rural region between Aachen, Mönchengladbach, and Roermond. The city festival is one of the few major events of the year and attracts visitors from the entire district as well as from the nearby Dutch border area.

What the 2026 City Festival Offers

Specific program details will be published shortly before the festival. Classic components of the Heinsberg City Festival:

• Live Music on several stages in the pedestrian zone – from cover bands to local acts, often with Dutch artists due to the proximity to the border
• Food Truck Series – international street food selection, burgers, pulled pork, vegan bowls, waffles
• Family Program – children's carousels, play stations, possibly bouncy castles
• Local Associations with information stands and catering

Heinsberg and its Pandemic History

Heinsberg became nationally known in February 2020 as the first German Corona hotspot. Today, the city is back to normal operations – the city festival is a symbol of regained social vitality. Families from the district use the city center festivities as an opportunity to meet.

Getting There

By car via the A46 (Heinsberg exit) – parking around the city center. By public transport: Heinsberg train station (RB 33 from Aachen). Dutch guests usually take the route from Roermond.
