2026
About Sandhasenregatta
Sandhasenregatta — edition 2026
Two Days of Racing on the Untermain
On Kahler See – a gravel pit lake in the southern Spessart foothills – the Kahl Sailing Club e.V. hosts its Sandhasenregatta. On the Pentecost weekend of 2026 (May 30th and 31st), crews from the Corsair and Seggerling classes will meet for several races over the two days.
Corsairs and Seggerlings as a Double Act
The Corsair class, a 5.06-meter dinghy with a spinnaker, has provided the sporting substance of the regatta for years. With the Seggerlings, a second, smaller class is added, broadening the field and bringing more club members into the competition. For spectators, this creates a lively scene on the jetty.

Sailing in the Kahler See Recreation Area
Visitors to the Sandhasenregatta for the first time are often surprised: In the middle of Unterfranken, on the edge of the Spessart, lies a gravel pit lake that has served as a sailing area for decades. The Kahler See in the market town of Kahl a.Main, Aschaffenburg district, is home to the Segelsportclub Kahl e.V. – whose clubhouse and jetty are located at Birkenanger 21 and serve as the event center for the regatta.
Two Boat Classes, One Trophy
The Sandhasenregatta has been sailed for years in the Corsair boat class – a classic two-person dinghy with a spinnaker, which has a dedicated competitive scene in Germany. A few years ago, the Seggerling class was added, a smaller dinghy that is particularly popular with club and youth sailors. Both classes hold their races in parallel, allowing spectators on the jetty to follow the close competition.
Club Festival by the Water
Beyond the competition, the Sandhasenregatta is also a club festival. Catering at the clubhouse, bratwurst and cold drinks at the jetty, an award ceremony on Sunday evening – the weekend has the charm of a family-friendly club festival, to which walkers and local residents are also welcome to join.
A Piece of Franconian Sailing Tradition
Even though the Untermain region is better known for wine and folk festivals (Volksfeste) than for water sports, the sailing clubs on the Main River and the surrounding gravel pit lakes have shaped their own tradition since the 1960s. The SSC Kahl is one of the most active representatives of this scene in the Aschaffenburg district.
