Berlin's English-speaking Improv Comedy Festival with a focus on Long-Form
Improv Comedy in English has its own community in Berlin — fueled by international comedians, expats, and the local scene around the city's English-language comedy clubs. Since 2018, Das Improv Festival Berlin has been the annual showcase for this scene: five days of workshops and shows, primarily in Long-Form Improv — meaning improvisations that consist not of individual games, but of cohesive scenes and half-hour sets.
The 2026 edition takes place from September 16th to 20th at three locations in Neukölln: the Comedy Café Berlin (CCB) at Roseggerstraße 17 as the main show stage, Ida Nowhere at Donaustraße 79 as the second show stage five minutes' walk away, and the CCB Studios at Hasenheide 12 (postal code 10967) for the workshops. The close proximity makes the festival compact — venues within walking distance, a true festival bubble in one district.
The workshop program is the core of the festival — 16 workshops with international instructors, ranging from Musical Improv and Voice Over for Improv to advanced Long-Form formats. The workshops are aimed at improvisers with prior experience, some at absolute beginners. They run during the day at the CCB Studios, while the evenings are reserved for shows at CCB and Ida Nowhere.
Das Improv Festival is explicitly a non-profit festival. The goal is the growth of a fair comedy community, not a commercial end in itself. The organizers curate the program internationally — participants come from Germany, Great Britain, the USA, the Netherlands, Italy, Poland — and create a space where even lesser-known acts can gain visibility. In the Neukölln district, the festival is one of the focal points of the English-speaking comedy scene and part of Berlin's diverse theater and performance landscape.
The 2026 edition continues the established framework: five days of festival with a clear day/evening separation. During the day, 16 workshops run at the CCB Studios in Hasenheide — from beginner formats to advanced topics like Long-Form Musical Improv and Voice-Over techniques for improvisers. In the evenings, the two show venues (Comedy Café Berlin and Ida Nowhere) host a dense program of international Improv acts.
The festival is organizationally a registered non-profit association. The venues are within walking distance of each other in Neukölln and partly in Kreuzberg — a deliberate effect that makes the festival spatially compact and atmospherically dense.
The complete show and workshop program will be announced successively on dasimprovfestival.com. Confirmed framework as of May 2026:
Instructors come from Berlin, London, New York, Chicago, Amsterdam, and Milan. Acts will be announced gradually starting July 2026.
