Schloss Malberg Concert – Novalis Wind Quintet

The concert with the Novalis Wind Quintet is another highlight of the 2026 autumn concert season at Schloss Malberg. With the classic wind quintet (flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, bassoon), the ensemble brings one of the most charming chamber music formations to the Garden Hall of the baroque castle.

Novalis Wind Quintet

The Novalis Wind Quintet is dedicated to classic quintet literature as well as the rediscovery of lesser-known works. With their name, which refers to the German early Romantic Friedrich von Hardenberg (Novalis), the ensemble signals its romantic programme orientation.

Programme: Waterson and Farrenc

The concert combines two focal points:

• Waterson: Work by a composer of the Romantic era in the classic wind quintet idiom.
• Louise Farrenc (1804-1875): The French composer, long forgotten in the shadow of her contemporaries, is now considered one of the most important female composers of her era. Her chamber music – including works for winds – is increasingly being rediscovered and integrated into the concert canon.

The concert is thus also a contribution to the cultural reappraisal of female compositional history – a topic that has rightly received more attention in the classical music scene in recent years.

Garden Hall Schloss Malberg

The Garden Hall of the baroque Schloss Malberg offers an ideal chamber music setting. The historic architecture, the location in the Eifel region, and the intimate concert situation merge into a listening experience of particular density. The hall is acoustically ideal for a wind quintet with its airy, luminous sonic texture.

Support for Castle Culture

The proceeds from the concerts benefit the preservation and cultural use of Schloss Malberg. With moderate admission prices – €18 regular and €15 for members of the support association – attending the concert remains affordable for a broad audience.
