«Tauchscher» — The Nickname for the City Festival
«Tauchscher» is an affectionate, colloquial term the residents use to call their city festival. The people of Taucha have been celebrating it for decades on the last weekend of August: three days of events in the historic old town in Leipzig's northern commuter belt. The Taucha city administration, together with the event agency Bernd Hochmuth, is responsible for organizing it.
Three Venues in the City Center
The festival grounds are spread across three areas: the Market Square with the main stage and numerous market stalls; the Badergasse with more stalls, smaller live performances, and food vendors; and the Festival Grounds with the funfair — rides, carousels, candy floss stands, and classic attractions.
Family Day and Grand Parade
The highlight for families is the Children's Play Street on Saturday afternoon: play stations, bouncy castles, craft activities, and face painting attract the youngest visitors. On Sunday morning, the Grand Parade takes place through the town — clubs, schools, carnival groups, and local initiatives march through the old town with music. A classic that embodies the community spirit of the Tauchscher.
Musical Spectrum: Local to National Acts
The main stage features a mix of local bands from the Leipzig area and national acts. Typically, the program includes Schlager, rock, pop, and cover bands. DJs take over in the late hours. The stage program will be published shortly before the festival weekend on taucha.de.
Taucha, Local Heritage Society, and Leipzig's Northern Commuter Belt
Taucha is located in the Nordsachsen district, directly north of the Leipzig city limits. With a population of just over 15,000, Taucha is one of Leipzig's fast-growing commuter belt communities — many young families are moving here. The local heritage society is actively involved in maintaining the city festival. Visitors to the Tauchscher can combine their stay with a walk along the Rietzschke stream or a day trip to Leipzig.
