About Rosenmontagszug Kröv

The Kröver Rosenmontagszug is one of the liveliest Carnival parades on the Mosel. On Rosenmontag (Rose Monday), the local Carnival society parades with floats, walking groups, guards, and music bands through the narrow streets of the Mosel wine village Kröv, past historic houses and the famous Weinbrunnenhalle. Thousands of spectators from Kröv and surrounding Mosel villages line the route, catching candy and celebrating the highlight of the Kröv Fastnacht (Carnival). Afterwards, the celebration continues in pubs and clubhouses, culminating in a long Mosellan Carnival evening.

Carnival on the Middle Mosel

Even though Cologne, Düsseldorf, and Mainz are the German Carnival strongholds, the Mosel region has its own deeply rooted Fastnacht (Carnival) tradition. In Kröv – the famous Mosel wine village known for its vineyards like Kröver Nacktarsch and Nachbarn – Rosenmontag is the highlight of the year for revellers. The Kröv Carnival society prepares for this festive day all year round, building floats, writing satirical speeches, and organizing the performance program.

Floats, Guards, and Mosel Atmosphere

The Rosenmontagszug itself parades through the center of Kröv in the early afternoon. Participants include the Carnival society's dance guards, local clubs with themed floats, music bands, Funkenmariechen (sparkling maids), and costumed walking groups. Local relevance is key: wine, Mosel themes, local politics, and village life along the Mosel are addressed with wit and a twinkle in the eye. Thousands of candies are thrown to the audience, with children lining the route holding bags and sacks.

After the Parade, the Party Continues

After the procession, the festivities move to Kröv's pubs, clubhouses, and the Weinbrunnenhalle. Wine from Kröver Nacktarsch, draft beer, bratwurst, and Mosel specialties accompany the long Carnival evening. The Kröver Rosenmontagszug is a classic village Carnival event – familial, with free admission, no grand staging, but with genuine Mosellan joie de vivre.
