About Taucha Christmas Markets

The Taucha Christmas Markets celebrate the 1st Advent weekend at two locations: the classic market square with vendors, associations, and the traditional «Riesentaucher Stollenschnitt» (Giant Taucha Stollen Cut), as well as the courtyard of Rittergut Castle with a medieval Christmas market, a Christmas bazaar in the Kulturscheune (cultural barn), and Santa Claus's mailbox. An illuminated Leipziger Straße connects both locations. Free admission.

Advent Kick-off in Nordsachsen

Taucha, a small town in the Nordsachsen district on the northeastern outskirts of Leipzig, has created a special identity with its Christmas markets: Instead of operating just one central market, two locations are used in parallel — and connected by illuminated motifs on Leipziger Straße. This dual structure makes the Taucha Advent kick-off a particularly atmospheric weekend.

Market Square — Classic and Communal

At the market square, you'll find regional vendors, city associations, and food stalls offering mulled wine, bratwurst, Pulsnitz gingerbread, and Saxon stollen. A special program highlight is the «Riesentaucher Stollenschnitt»: An oversized Christmas stollen is ceremoniously cut and distributed to visitors — a tradition that regularly attracts tourists from the Leipzig region.

Rittergut Castle — Medieval and Intimate

A completely different atmosphere is created in the courtyard of Rittergut Castle: A medieval Christmas market with craftsmen, jugglers, and rogues immerses the courtyard in a pre-industrial mood. In the Kulturscheune, a Christmas bazaar with arts and crafts and special gifts runs concurrently — the mix of castle ambiance, medieval flair, and handicrafts is unique in the Saxon Advent calendar.

Santa Claus's Mailbox

One of the highlights for children: Santa Claus's mailbox in the castle courtyard. Here, children can personally drop off their wish lists — and receive a handwritten reply in the weeks before Christmas. A lovely tradition that draws families to Taucha year after year. The illuminated motifs on Leipziger Straße between the market square and the castle form the 'common thread' of the weekend.

Taucha Christmas Markets — edition 2026

The Taucha Christmas Markets 2026 will take place on the 1st Advent weekend, from Friday, November 27 (4:00 PM) to Sunday, November 29 (7:00 PM). Two locations — the Market Square and Rittergut Castle — will be active simultaneously and connected by illuminated motifs on Leipziger Straße.

Both markets open on Friday afternoon at 4:00 PM. The market square offers the classic program with regional vendors, associations, mulled wine, and the traditional «Riesentaucher Stollenschnitt». In the courtyard of Rittergut Castle, a medieval market scene with craftsmen and jugglers is created in parallel, while the Christmas bazaar runs in the Kulturscheune.

The highlight for children: Santa Claus's mailbox in the castle courtyard. The Taucha city administration organizes the weekend in cooperation with vendors, the Taucha Castle Association (Rittergut Castle), and local associations.
