Village Festival with Community Spirit
The Altenpleen Village Festival takes place annually in midsummer in the municipality of Altenpleen. It is the most important social event for the small community of around 1,200 inhabitants, bringing together locals and guests from the surrounding villages of Klausdorf, Groß Mohrdorf, Kramerhof, and the Hanseatic city of Stralsund.
Program
The two-day festival traditionally includes live music on the festival stage, dance evenings, fairground rides such as carousels and games of chance, market stalls with crafts and regional specialties, and a varied program for families with children. The organizers are the municipality of Altenpleen and the company HELLCON Veranstaltungstechnik, which is responsible for the stage and sound system.
Regional Context
Altenpleen is located in the Vorpommern-Rügen district (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) on the mainland shore of the Strelasund, opposite the island of Rügen and in close proximity to the UNESCO World Heritage city of Stralsund. The rural location at the transition between the mainland and the island shapes the character of the festival: it is honest, down-to-earth, and deeply rooted in the tradition of Vorpommern village life.
Altenpleen Village Festival — edition 2026
The Altenpleen Village Festival 2026 will open its gates from Friday, June 26, to Saturday, June 27, on the municipal festival grounds. The organizers are the municipality of Altenpleen and the company HELLCON Veranstaltungstechnik.
The exact program had not yet been published as of May 2026 (the Amt's website states "More details to follow!"). Based on previous years, the two-day festival typically includes live music, dance evenings, fairground rides, market stalls, and a family program with activities for children. Previous editions were held around the same time of year (2024: July 5–6, 2025: July 4–5).
