Summery Hofweinfest at the family winery in Steigerwald
'Hofschoppen' is the Franconian term for a winery festival held directly at the vintner's. A 'Schoppen' refers to the classic 0.25-liter glass of Franconian wine. The Hofschoppenfest at Weingut Fischer in Wiesentheid is one of the most beautiful of these courtyard festivals in the Franconian wine region — celebrated not in a marketplace or festival tent, but directly in the winery's courtyard, on the rooftop terrace, in the vaulted cellar, and in the neighboring inn.
Weingut Fischer (Weinkellerei Martin Fischer KG) is one of the traditional family wineries in Steigerwald, located in Wiesentheid. Here, wine is produced artisanally, not industrially: Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau, Bacchus, Riesling, Domina, Schwarzriesling — the typical grape varieties of the Franconian wine region, matured in the in-house cellar. The Hofschoppenfest is the winery's most important own event, fostering direct contact with regular customers and newcomers.
What's special about the Hofschoppenfest Fischer is the choice between four atmospheres.
There is live music in the courtyard on all three evenings: in 2026, Beatjamas will perform on the opening night (Saturday, July 11, 7 PM) and the band 'Ka Ro feat. Benno' on the closing night (Monday, July 13, 6 PM). Sunday, the middle festival day, features a program 'for young and old' with activities for families.
Wiesentheid (around 5,000 inhabitants) is located in the northern Steigerwald, a quiet, hilly, and wooded wine-growing region between Würzburg and Bamberg. The market town boasts an impressive baroque castle of the Counts of Schönborn (with a castle park), is known as 'baroque Wiesentheid,' and is the center of several wine villages (Lülsfeld, Castell, Abtswind). The Hofschoppenfest Fischer is a perfect occasion to get to know this tranquil wine region directly from the producer.
The 2026 Hofschoppenfest opens on Saturday, July 11, at 5:00 PM and runs until Monday evening, July 13. The Fischer family welcomes guests in the courtyard, on the rooftop terrace, in the vaulted cellar, and in the neighboring Gasthaus Krone. The full range of house wines is available — Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau, Bacchus, Riesling, Schwarzriesling, Domina — by the glass ('Schoppen') or bottle, along with Franconian delicacies from the Krone (pork knuckle, bratwurst, snack platters, sausage salad, cheese specialties).
Live music accompanies two of the three evenings: Beatjamas on opening night, and Ka Ro feat. Benno on closing night. Sunday is dedicated to a family program 'for young and old.' Free admission throughout the festival period.
