Festival in honor of the Hofer Wärschtlamo in Theresienstein
Hardly any figure is as closely linked to the identity of the Upper Franconian city of Hof (state of Bavaria) as the "Wärschtlamo" – the itinerant sausage seller with his steaming sausage cauldron. He has been an integral part of the cityscape since 1871 and is considered a cultural landmark of Hof. The Wärschtlamo-Fest is the annual tribute to this beloved tradition.
The venue for the festival is Theresienstein, Bavaria's oldest public park and a popular excursion destination in Hochfranken. The park's labyrinth transforms into a festival ground for one day. Here, you'll find what defines the Wärschtlamo and what belongs to a Franconian festival day: bratwurst, freshly tapped Hof beer, steaks, vegetarian wraps, a Weißwurst breakfast, as well as coffee and cake.
The Wärschtlamo-Fest coincides with the conclusion of the traditional Hofer Promenadenkonzerte, which have taken place every Sunday at the music pavilion in Theresienstein since 1989, from mid-May to early September. Thus, culinary tradition and musical culture combine for an atmospheric end to the season.
The Wärschtlamo-Fest is a family festival with high recognition value for the people of Hof and a charming piece of lived urban culture. Amidst the aroma of sausages, brass music, and autumnal park ambiance, Hof celebrates one of its most beautiful traditions – down-to-earth, hearty, and typically Franconian.
