HeidelPride — Heidelberg's Queer Voice
HeidelPride is the annual Pride event of the LGBTQ+ community in Heidelberg and the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region. Visibility, solidarity, and the demand for equal rights are the core concerns that lead to the Heidelberg CSD every year. The organizers are HeidelPride e.V. together with QueerSpace HD and with the support of the City of Heidelberg.
Pride Parade in the Historic Old Town
The Pride Parade winds through Heidelberg's Old Town — one of Germany's most beautiful historic cityscapes. With rainbow flags, creative costumes, floats, music, and choreographies, the demonstration marches from Bismarckplatz or Universitätsplatz through Hauptstraße to Marktplatz or Karlsplatz. Thousands of demonstrators and thousands of spectators line the procession.
Subsequent Street Festival
After the demonstration, the open street festival takes place — usually at Marktplatz or in the Stadtgarten. With DJ sets, live concerts, drag performances, spoken word contributions, information stands from queer initiatives, safety advice, self-advocacy workshops, and a rich culinary offer. The street festival is a place for empowerment, a meeting point, and an extension of the demonstration all in one.
Dyke*March as an Accompanying Format
HeidelPride is complemented by the Dyke*March Heidelberg on April 25 and 26, 2026 — a separate demonstration for lesbian, bisexual, trans*, and queer women, as well as non-binary individuals. The Dyke*March originated as a specific visibility format and adds a voice to the general Pride movement that is sometimes overlooked.
Heidelberg as a Queer Student Location
With Germany's oldest university (founded in 1386) and over 30,000 students, Heidelberg is a city with a younger and open-minded audience. The queer community is active in the student scene, the independent scene, and in several publicly visible initiatives. QueerSpace HD as a self-help group and contact point, as well as various student initiatives, shape the image.
Donations and Support
HeidelPride is partly financed by donations. The Betterplace platform enables monetary and in-kind donations for event organization. Those who want to support the event can also help as volunteers — with setup, security, or catering. The organization welcomes assistance from the community.
Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region
Heidelberg is part of the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region with over 2.4 million inhabitants. Mannheim, Ludwigshafen, Worms, and Heidelberg form the core of Germany's third-largest economic region. HeidelPride accordingly attracts participants and demonstrators from the entire area — an important signal of queer networking in the region.
