Pellworm — green Hallig island in the Wadden Sea
Pellworm is one of the small North Frisian islands in the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park — a flat marsh island, much of it below sea level, protected by a high dike. The island is only accessible by ferry from Nordstrand. With its tranquil landscape, classic Frisian house character, and the world's largest solar-wind power supply, it is considered one of the most distinctive North Sea islands. The Hafenfest is one of the few major events on the island.
Programme on the Harbour Promenade
The summer festival uses the harbour promenade as its festival mile. During the day:
- Local artists and clubs present themselves on stage
- Artisans from the island show their workshops
- Market stalls with regional products — lamb sausage, farm cheese, salt marsh specialities
- Food stalls with North German harbour fare — shrimp rolls, fried fish, bratwurst
- Live bands play all afternoon
When the market stalls close in the evening, the festival continues with music and drinks by the harbour — Pellworm islanders and day guests relax and wind down the summer Saturday.
Pellworm Summer Finale
The Hafenfest is a summer highlight in the Pellworm event calendar — between the Pellworm Rose and Garden Days in June and the Pellworm Choral Music Week in autumn. Visitors new to the island will find the quickest access to island culture here — the Pellwormers perform together, the stage is open to local talents, and the atmosphere is family-friendly.
Arrival by Ferry
Pellworm is only accessible by ferry from the port of Strucklahnungshörn on Nordstrand — the Wyker Dampfschiffs-Reederei (WDR) operates several times a day. Accommodation on the island is scarce in summer; those who want to experience the Hafenfest day and not stay overnight should plan for an early departure on the last ferry.
