About Choir Music Week Pellworm
Choir Music Week Pellworm — edition 2026
The second edition of the Pellworm Choir Music Week continues the format of the premiere: a week of intensive rehearsal work, embedded in the calm atmosphere of the North Frisian island of Pellworm. Under the musical direction of KMD Matthias Hoffmann-Borggrefe, participants will work on a challenging program that spans from Protestant Baroque (Schein, Schütz) through Romantic choral music (Brahms, Mendelssohn) to the modern era (Duruflé).
The centerpiece is the Baroque oratorio 'Jephta' by Giacomo Carissimi – a rarely heard work from the Italian early Baroque tradition. Registration is via [email protected].

Seven Days of Choral Sound on a North Frisian Island
Pellworm is a flat, green marsh island in the North Frisian Wadden Sea, nestled within the Wadden Sea UNESCO World Heritage landscape on the Schleswig-Holstein west coast. Located in the North Frisia district, the island is only accessible by ferry – and it is precisely this seclusion that makes it the ideal location for an intensive rehearsal week. The Pellworm Choir Music Week utilizes this atmosphere to bring together choir enthusiasts from all over Germany.
Rehearsal Work at the Highest Level
The musical direction is in the hands of KMD Matthias Hoffmann-Borggrefe, an experienced church musician. The 2026 program spans a wide range of choral music history:
- Works from Heinrich Schein's 'Israelsbrünnlein'
- Heinrich Schütz's 'Geistliche Chormusik'
- Johannes Brahms op. 30
- Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy op. 69
- Maurice Duruflé op. 10
- The Baroque oratorio 'Jephta' by Giacomo Carissimi as the central major work
Concert and Nature Experience
The highlight of the week is the grand final concert on July 10th, 2026, at 6 PM in the New Church St. Crucis at Klostermitteldeich 3a. Admission is free; donations are appreciated. The intensive rehearsal work is complemented by a cultural program that makes Pellworm's uniqueness tangible – from mudflat hiking and encounters with the island community to the vast horizons of the North Frisian marsh.

Registration is via the email address [email protected]. Places are limited, and only a few spots were still available before the 2026 edition.
