The HEIMeliger Weihnachtsmarkt is the seaside resort's central Advent event and takes place in the historic village center around the Historic Island — away from the beach, but in the heart of the old town.

The Historic Island is the oldest part of St. Peter-Ording — an area naturally bordered by two streams, which was developed as the municipality's tourist center as early as the 1920s.
