About HEIMeliger Weihnachtsmarkt SPO

The HEIMeliger Weihnachtsmarkt St. Peter-Ording transforms the Historic Island in the village center of the North Frisian seaside resort into a wintery, warm market world for four weeks. Rustic wooden huts with handmade Christmas decorations and culinary offerings, fir trees decorated with kindergarten stars, two synthetic ice stock rinks, children's cinema, an open stage, and open-air Christmas parties with DJs on December 5th and 19th, 2026. Santa Claus on weekends, plus a pirate ship visit for the little ones — all on one of North Germany's most spectacular sandy beaches.

St. Peter-Ording — North Sea Resort with a 12-Kilometer Sandy Beach

St. Peter-Ording (short SPO) in the district of Nordfriesland in the state of Schleswig-Holstein is one of Germany's most famous North Sea resorts — renowned for its 12-kilometer-long, up to 2-kilometer-wide sandy beach, the wooden stilt houses on the beach, and its characteristic double-town structure (St. Peter with the village center, St. Peter-Ording with the beach promenade). The HEIMeliger Weihnachtsmarkt is the seaside resort's central Advent event and takes place in the historic village center around the Historic Island — away from the beach, but in the heart of the old town.

The Historic Island — The Venue

The Historic Island is the oldest part of St. Peter-Ording — an area naturally bordered by two streams, which was developed as the municipality's tourist center as early as the 1920s. With thatched-roof houses, the historic St. Peter's Church, and cozy restaurants, the Historic Island provides the postcard setting for the Christmas market.

Rustic Wooden Huts, Fir Trees with Kindergarten Decorations

The visual hallmark of the HEIMeliger Weihnachtsmarkt are the rustic wooden huts housing each stand — unadorned in the best sense, with fir branches, fairy lights, and handmade wooden signs. A special feature: the fir trees placed between the huts are decorated with stars, angels, and ornaments made by kindergarten children from St. Peter-Ording. This lovingly detailed staging makes the market a specialty: no high-gloss marketing, but village community.

Activities: Ice Stock Sport, Children's Cinema, Open Stage

The accompanying program goes far beyond "drinking mulled wine":

  • Two synthetic ice stock rinks — on a non-slip special surface, you can hold ice stock competitions or simply try out the sport
  • Open Stage — local choirs, bands, and school groups perform on Advent weekends
  • Children's Cinema — Christmas films for the younger market guests in a heated hut
  • Santa Claus Visits on weekends — Saint Nicholas with his bishop's staff visits regularly

Open-Air Christmas Parties with DJ

An SPO specialty: two open-air Christmas parties with DJ — on December 5th and December 19th, 2026. These parties transform the market into a wintery open-air club in the evening — typical DJ sets of Christmas music in modern remixes, Schlager, pop, and dance classics. The market remains open longer on these dates, developing a special atmosphere that adds a more modern component to the "Heimelige" (cozy) feel.

HEIMeliger Weihnachtsmarkt SPO — edition 2026

The HEIMeliger Weihnachtsmarkt St. Peter-Ording 2026 runs from December 4, 2026, to January 3, 2027, on the Historic Island in the village center. Rustic wooden huts, two synthetic ice stock rinks, open stage, children's cinema, Santa Claus on weekends, open-air DJ parties on Dec 5 & 19, 2026.

1 Month of Market — December 4, 2026, to January 3, 2027

The 2026 edition runs exceptionally long: from December 4, 2026, to January 3, 2027 — thus spanning Christmas, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day. This makes the market one of the few North German Christmas markets still open in the second week of the holidays and on New Year's Day — an SPO specialty that many family vacationers in the seaside resort particularly appreciate.

Open-Air Christmas Parties Dec 5 & 19

Twice, the market will turn into an open-air party night in the evening: on Saturday, December 5, 2026, and Saturday, December 19, 2026 — with DJ sets, extended opening hours, and a special atmosphere between a Christmas market and an open-air club.
