Hamburg's Festival for Nature and City Lovers
The Asphaltsprenger Festival is Hamburg's central festival for everyone interested in urban nature, environmental protection, climate adaptation, and socio-ecological urban planning. The title says it all: it's about literally breaking up the city – replacing asphalt with greenery, reclaiming habitats, rethinking the city.
The venue is the PARKS grounds at Bullerdeich 6 in Hammerbrook, combined with the neighboring park at the Hochwasserbassin. This district in the Hamburg-Mitte borough – formerly a purely industrial and freight forwarding area – is now one of Hamburg's model districts for urban transformation.
2026 marks the 5th edition – the festival has grown in just a few years to become one of the most important dates in Hamburg for ecological urban culture. With around 6,000 expected visitors, it is the largest outdoor event of its kind in the Hanseatic city.
The organizers are the Loki-Schmidt-Stiftung – named after Hamburg's nature conservation icon Loki Schmidt – and the BürgerStiftung Hamburg. Both foundations are firmly anchored in Hamburg's nature conservation and education work. Admission: donation, all workshops are free.
