Neighbourhood Festival of Encounter
Schinkel is one of Osnabrück's most vibrant and culturally diverse districts. People from over 100 countries of origin live together here, and the neighbourhood is an example of successful urban coexistence. The Akyürek-Fest honours this diversity and creates a visible occasion every four years to celebrate togetherness.
Yilmaz Akyürek as the Naming Donor
The festival is named after Yilmaz Akyürek, a voluntarily engaged citizen who worked for decades to foster community life in Schinkel. For his commitment, he received the Medal of Merit of the City. Akyürek-Platz on Iburger Straße was named after him and is the venue for the festival.
2026 Programme
Mayor Katharina Pötter will open the festival at 3:00 PM. The Franz-Hecker-Schule, singer Ozan Tunç, artist Ismail Türker, and the children's groups of DITIB will present their contributions on stage. Between performances, stands offering food, drinks, games, and information from local initiatives will ensure a colourful atmosphere.
City of Peace in the Neighbourhood
The Akyürek-Fest is part of the 'Frieden leben jetzt' (Living Peace Now) programme, which the City of Osnabrück, as a City of Peace, has been pursuing for years. In Schinkel, it becomes evident how the aspiration for lived peace is concretely implemented in the neighbourhood – beyond the historical remembrance of the Peace of Westphalia in 1648.
