A day of celebration for the 1,095 m long wooden pier on the North Sea — Live music, activities, and indoor party
The Seebrücke Sankt Peter-Ording is a landmark of Schleswig-Holstein and one of the most photographed structures on the German North Sea coast. With a length of 1,095 meters, it leads from the beach promenade over the wide sandy beach out to the water — past the stilt restaurant "Arche Noah," which appears to tower in the middle of the North Sea at high tide.
The first pier was built in 1926 — but shortly after its completion, it was severely damaged by drift ice. In 1928, a reinforced reconstruction with icebreakers followed. Since then, the pier has been renovated several times, most recently in 2005 with a comprehensive modernization. Today, the structure rests on around 7,000 wooden piles, connected by about 98,000 screws and nails.
On May 23, 2026, the 100th birthday will be celebrated with an all-day program. On the forecourt of the pier, starting at 11 a.m., there will be game stations for families, live music, culinary stands, and hands-on activities. Additionally, an interactive outdoor escape game called "Projekt Zeitbrücke" with ten stations along the promenade invites visitors to immerse themselves in the history of the structure. An app allows the original construction process from 1926 to be virtually recreated.
From 10 p.m., the festival moves indoors to the traditional GOSCH branch at the promenade pillar. Here, the anniversary day concludes with a party — fitting the maritime soul of the seaside resort.
Sankt Peter-Ording, or SPO for short, is one of Germany's best-known Baltic and North Sea resorts, with over 2 million overnight stays per year. It is located in the district of Nordfriesland in the state of Schleswig-Holstein. The twelve-kilometer-long sandy beach, the stilt houses, and the pier shape the unique cityscape. The 2026 anniversary festival is one of the most important event dates in the summer calendar.
The unique anniversary day is confirmed on the official channels of the Sankt Peter-Ording Tourism Office and in the local press (presseportal.de, moin.de). Organizers: Sankt Peter-Ording Tourism Office in cooperation with GOSCH.
Beyond the anniversary day, the "Projekt Zeitbrücke" format will run as an interactive experience for several weeks — an extension of the festival week that makes the history of the pier accessible even beyond May 23rd.
