Free street theatre festival along 3 kilometers of the Rhine promenade in Bingen with acrobatics, comedy, music, and a large arts and crafts market.
The Kulturuferfest Bingen is one of the major street theatre festivals on the Rhine and a cultural highlight for the city at the entrance to the Upper Middle Rhine Valley UNESCO World Heritage site. The event combines three elements into a unique Sunday: a high-caliber street art program, a large arts and crafts market, and the spectacular backdrop of the Rhine, the Nahe estuary, Burg Klopp, and the Mäuseturm.
The venue is the Rhine promenade, extending for about three kilometers. Stages, activity areas, and stalls are spread out from the harbor area at the city's entrance down to the Nahe estuary. Visitors stroll from one performance to the next, linger, go with the flow, and discover the program step by step.
The artistic program covers the full spectrum of contemporary street art. Acrobats present juggling, slapstick, and balancing acts. Comedians and mimes perform short, poignant scenes that make passersby stop and laugh. Music groups of various styles – brass, folk, jazz, world, acoustic pop – play on small and medium-sized stages. Walking acts, stilt walkers, puppet theatre, and performance artists move through the crowd, creating encounters as people pass by.
Alongside the stage program, a large arts and crafts market is held. Potters, glassblowers, jewelry designers, leatherworkers, woodturners, felt artists, textile designers, and many other craftspeople offer their work. The combination of live art and craftsmanship is what makes it so special: what appears as a performance on stage can be taken home as a physical object from the stall next door.
The culinary offerings along the promenade include food trucks, stall pavilions, and pop-up cafés. International specialties meet regional classics, while ice cream stands and cocktail bars provide the perfect summer refreshment.
Admission is free. This is a deliberate commitment by the city of Bingen to open, accessible culture that includes all segments of the population – families, tourists, wine and cultural travelers, seniors, and young people.
The 2026 edition continues the successful concept: a high-quality street art program, a large arts and crafts market, free admission, and the spectacular backdrop of the Middle Rhine Valley.
The exact list of artists and exhibitors for 2026 will be published by the city of Bingen in early summer. The structure follows the proven benchmarks of previous years.
