Traditional festival under Kollenburg castle ruins in the Bavarian Forest
The Heimatfest Kollnburg has been celebrated for over four decades at the beginning of August in the picturesque town center of Kollnburg. A special feature: every year, a different local club organizes the festival – often in connection with founding anniversaries, banner dedications, or special ceremonies. This keeps the Heimatfest varied and distributes the responsibility among the entire club life of the town.
The festival grounds are the Mehrzweckplatz am Schloßberg, directly below the famous Kollenburg castle ruins. The impressive hillside setting with the medieval castle tower forms a unique backdrop for the festival tent and grounds. Kollnburg is not nicknamed "Romantic Castle Village" for nothing.
The program follows the classic Lower Bavarian Heimatfest dramaturgy: beer tapping on the opening evening, festival tent operation with brass music, traditional costume and festival parade on Sunday, family program with performances by local folk dance groups, and evening entertainment with live bands from the Bavarian Forest.
The Heimat- und Volkstrachtenverein Kollnburg e.V. – organizer in 2026 – preserves traditional customs, costumes, dialect, folk dance, and folk music. As early as 2011, for its 45th anniversary, the association had organized the Heimatfest. In 2026, it celebrates its 60th anniversary and uses the Heimatfest as the occasion.
Kollnburg is located in the district of Regen in Lower Bavaria (Bavaria), on the edge of the Bavarian Forest Nature Park, between Viechtach and Bodenmais. With around 2,800 inhabitants and a long tradition of folk costumes and pilgrimages, the municipality is a classic example of authentic Bavarian Forest village life. For many locals and regular guests, attending the Heimatfest is a fixed date in the annual calendar.
The 42nd Heimatfest Kollnburg takes place from Friday, July 31, to Monday, August 3, 2026. The festival grounds are the Mehrzweckplatz am Schloßberg, directly below the medieval Kollenburg castle ruins.
The organizer for 2026 is the Heimat- und Volkstrachtenverein Kollnburg, celebrating its 60th anniversary. The event kicks off with the traditional beer tapping on Friday evening, followed by festival tent entertainment with brass music and Bavarian Forest live bands. Sunday features the grand traditional costume and festival parade through Kollnburg, and Monday concludes the festival with the Bavarian Frühschoppen (morning pint).
The Heimatfest is open to families and guests of all generations – a children's program, traditional costume performances, and Lower Bavarian delicacies are part of the program, as is the evening festival tent atmosphere.
Free admission to the festival grounds. Festival tent evenings with live bands may be subject to a charge.
