Town festival in the heart of the Bavarian Forest — music, clubs, and children's program on the Stadtplatz
The Viechtach Civic Festival is the most important town festival in the market town of Viechtach in the Regen district — located in the middle of the Bavarian Forest, south of the Großer Arber. For three days, the historic Stadtplatz (town square) is transformed into a festival mile with stages, showmen, and stands from local clubs, restaurateurs, and craft businesses.
Viechtach, with its approximately 8,000 inhabitants, lies in the valley of the Schwarzer Regen river, framed by the Pfahl rock formations, quartz veins, and the low mountain ranges of the Bavarian Forest. The market town is a state-recognized health resort and an important hub between Cham, Regen, and Deggendorf. The Civic Festival is an expression of a vibrant club and business life.
The Civic Festival spans the entire first weekend of July — Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Regional and national bands perform on several stages along the town square, interspersed with show acts, dance groups, and musical performances by local clubs. Showmen set up carousels, shooting galleries, and small amusement rides around the square.
A dedicated children's program with games, face painting, craft activities, and show interludes is an integral part of the festival. This makes the Civic Festival explicitly designed to be family-friendly. Older visitors will also find their place with coffee and cake stands, folk music sessions, and cozy seating areas.
The festival is organized by the Town of Viechtach in cooperation with local clubs, restaurateurs, and craft businesses. Organization is handled by the town hall ([email protected], Tel. 09942 808-0).
The 2026 edition of the Viechtach Civic Festival is officially scheduled for the first full weekend of July — July 3 to 5, 2026 (Source: Viechtach town's event calendar). For three days, the town square with its historic houses, the town parish church, and the surrounding alleys will be transformed into a continuous festival mile.
Regional and national bands will perform on stages along the town square, dance groups will perform, and clubs will present their show programs. Showmen will set up carousels and stalls, and restaurateurs will serve Bavarian and international delicacies. A dedicated children's program with games, craft activities, and face painting will ensure a family-friendly atmosphere.
The complete stage program and artist list will be published shortly before the festival on viechtach.de.
