Largest district festival in eastern Münster with crafts and children's flea market
When Handorfer Straße in Münster-Handorf becomes a car-free festival mile, the region knows: The Handorfer Herbst is here. For years, the festival has been one of the largest district festivals in the entire Münsterland region and attracts thousands of visitors from the city and surrounding areas. The organizer is the Handorfer Kaufmannsgilde (HKG), which organizes the festival hand in hand with clubs, schools, and businesses.
The centerpiece is the huge market: Over 160 craft and sales stalls line Handorfer Straße. You'll find arts and crafts, jewelry, ceramics, woodwork, textiles, honey, specialties, and souvenirs from the region. Simultaneously, the large children's flea market, also with about 160 stalls, stretches for about a kilometer — an institution for Münster families.
Several stages and music stations create the atmosphere — from Dixieland and Oldies to folk dance and jazz, the spectrum is deliberately broad. Showmen, carousels, and hands-on activities round off the program. Culinary, you'll encounter the full spectrum of a good district festival: Bratwurst, fries, potato pancakes, crêpes, autumnal specialties, and of course, freshly tapped beer.
Handorf is one of the most distinctive districts of Münster in the Münsterland region of North Rhine-Westphalia. The Werse river, the recreational area around the Werse cycle path, and the historic farmsteads characterize the local scenery. During the Handorfer Herbst, this village character is evident in the middle of the big city — neighbors, club life, and businesses come together.
After the cancellation in 2025 due to safety reasons, the return of the Handorfer Herbst is planned for 2026. Date according to tradition: the weekend around the last Sunday in September. The exact dates and the final program will be announced via the Handorfer Kaufmannsgilde and its social media channels.
The 2026 edition marks the return of the Handorfer Herbst. The Handorfer Kaufmannsgilde (HKG) is working on an updated safety concept. The exact date, final program, and stall and stage arrangements will be communicated before the festival via the HKG, the festival's Facebook page, and the local Münster media.
Note: The detailed daily program for 2026 will be published promptly via the Handorfer Kaufmannsgilde and the festival's official Facebook page.
