Three days of Schützenfest by the St. Hubertus Pötterhoek shooting fraternity since 1857 in Münster-East
The Schützenbruderschaft St. Hubertus Pötterhoek was founded in 1857 – boasting over 168 years of tradition. It is based in the Münster district of Pötterhoek, in the Münster-East borough, near the districts of Handorf and Gelmer. Pötterhoek is a village-like quarter with its own identity – shaped by the Pötterhoeker Mark, a farming past, and active club life centered around the fraternity.
The 2026 event runs from Friday, June 26th to Sunday, June 28th, 2026. The festival grounds are located at Sandbrink 4:
One week before the Schützenfest, on Corpus Christi Thursday, June 19th, 2026, the fraternity participates in the Corpus Christi procession in Pötterhoek — part of Catholic tradition, attended jointly by fraternity members, the parish, and the local community. It serves as the ceremonial prelude to the Schützenfest.
The fraternity's motto encapsulates their philosophy: on one hand, preserving and passing on 168 years of history with all its customs – mustering, king's shooting, marksmen's mass, parade. On the other hand, being open to new members, female participation, youth work, and modern club structures. It is precisely this balancing act that keeps the shooting fraternity tradition alive across generations in Westphalia.
Pötterhoek is located east of Münster, between Handorf and Gelmer, bisected by the railway line towards Osnabrück. With a few hundred inhabitants, Pötterhoek is one of Münster's smaller districts – which is precisely why club life plays such a strong role in the community. The fraternity serves as an anchor of identity, event organizer, and social network all in one.
Münster (approx. 316,000 inhabitants) is the largest city in the Münsterland region and one of North Rhine-Westphalia's most important university locations. Known for its old town, Prinzipalmarkt, castle, St. Paulus Cathedral buildings, and above all for its pronounced cycling culture — Münster consistently ranks among Germany's most bicycle-friendly cities. While the city center is characterized by students and tourists, districts like Pötterhoek embody the traditional, village-like Münster – with shooting festivals and fraternities that have existed for centuries.
The 2026 edition follows the classic three-day Westphalian Schützenfest format of the Schützenbruderschaft St. Hubertus Pötterhoek 1857 e.V. The current program will be published on the fraternity's website.
