21 Years of City Running in Nienburg
The Nienburg Asparagus Run was launched in 2005 and has since become a must-attend event for the North German running scene. Organized by Turnklub Weser Nienburg (TKW), one of the city's largest sports clubs, the run combines athletic challenge with the special atmosphere of the asparagus town in May.
Route: City Center and Weser Promenade
The 2.5 km circuit leads through the historic city center of Nienburg/Weser — Market Square, Lange Straße, City Church — and along the charming Weser promenade. The course is perfectly flat, making it ideal for beginners and hobby runners. Personal bests are achievable, while the city ambiance provides a unique backdrop in the region. Spectator density at the Market Square and along the Weser ensures a motivating atmosphere.
Three Disciplines
The event is divided into three disciplines, staggered in the afternoon and evening: 3:00 PM Event Run (short distance for children, youth, and fun runners), 5:00 PM 5 km Run (two laps), 6:00 PM 10 km Run (four laps). This makes the Asparagus Run accessible to all skill levels — from families with children to ambitious amateur runners and competitive athletes.
Asparagus Festival Atmosphere
The Asparagus Run deliberately takes place during the asparagus season: In the finish area, there is an asparagus refreshment stand, jointly organized by regional asparagus farms and the TKW sports canteen. This makes the run not only a sporting event but also a cultural one, underscoring Nienburg's identity as an asparagus town.
Registration and Timing
Registration is online via raceresult.com under event ID 378196 or by email to [email protected]. Timing is electronic via chip, and results lists are available online immediately after the race.
