PWV Forest Festival with Music (Kick-off Hiking Week)

The Pfälzerwald-Verein (PWV) is one of Germany's largest hiking associations with around 19,000 members and shapes the landscape of the Palatinate Forest with its approximately 100 huts. The Dahn local chapter operates one of these catered hiking centers above the town of Dahn with the "Im Schneiderfeld" hut, nestled in the forest between rocks and hiking trails. Once a year, the forest festival is celebrated here, the most important social event of the local chapter.

Forest Festival Under the Canopy

The forest festival follows the classic form of Palatinate hut festivals: tables under the trees, catering from the hut, a small stage for live music, a cozy atmosphere without stress, family activities. The menu focuses on the essentials – Saumagen, Bratwurst, steaks, Leberknödel, Sauerkraut, fries – and well-chilled drinks. A hiking band, often a regional brass ensemble, provides the musical backdrop.

Kick-off to the Dahn Felsenland Hiking Week

In 2026, the forest festival has a special function: it is the kick-off to the 36th Dahn Felsenland Hiking Week, which takes place from August 2nd to 8th. Those who visit the forest festival on Sunday can join the guided tours on Monday morning. This combination of a convivial start and a sporty hiking week defines the event and makes it attractive for hikers from the entire region.

Location and Natural Area

The PWV hut "Im Schneiderfeld" is located above Dahn in the Palatinate Forest Nature Park, part of the Palatinate Forest-North Vosges UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. It is accessible via several marked hiking trails from Dahn (approx. 30 minutes to 1 hour walk, depending on the ascent). The location is part of the experience: visitors to the forest festival arrive on foot, walk in the forest, eat in the forest, and enjoy a whole summer day in the Palatinate Forest.
