»Pfarrkirchen celebrates European & more!« — Town festival on the Stadtplatz
The Pfarrkirchen Altstadtfest is one of the largest town festivals in Lower Bavaria. The festival motto »Pfarrkirchen celebrates European & more!« ties into the district town's self-definition as a Europe-oriented location. The festival is organized by the town of Pfarrkirchen with its Tourist Information; the design is handled by local restaurateurs, clubs, and musicians.
Pfarrkirchen is the district town of Rottal-Inn (Lower Bavaria), located in the Rottal valley between the Inn and the Bavarian Forest. With about 12,000 inhabitants and a baroque town center, a characteristic Stadtplatz with a Marian column and several historic burgher houses, it offers a striking festival backdrop. The Altstadtfest uses this town center as its natural festival ambiance.
The Stadtplatz is the center of activity — from here, the festival radiates into the surrounding alleys. Several stages, culinary stands from Pfarrkirchen's gastronomy, international specialties, and live music characterize the evening. It starts in the late afternoon (typically 5:00 PM), with program items running until well after midnight (in previous years until 1:30 AM).
The Altstadtfest 2024 was the 29th edition — accordingly, the 30th edition is for 2025 and the 31st for 2026 (or a subsequent edition of comparable size). This makes the festival one of the region's longest-running town festivals and part of Lower Bavaria's summer culture.
The Altstadtfest 2026 starts on Friday, July 31, 2026, with the now traditional festival procession from Marienplatz starting at 5:30 PM through the historic town center. The festival then spreads across the Stadtplatz and the adjacent alleys. Several stages, international and Bavarian food stalls, bar, and beer garden offers characterize the evening.
The festival motto »Pfarrkirchen celebrates European & more!«, known from previous years, emphasizes the international orientation – with the presence of Pfarrkirchen's partner cities, culinary diversity, and multilingual stage moderation. The festival ended in previous years around 1:30 AM in the early morning hours.
The festival traditionally lasts several days. The exact program – stage assignments with band names, alternation between DJ stage and live stage – will be published by the town of Pfarrkirchen shortly before the date on the official website and in the local media.
