Hohe List – a Wasgau Landmark

The Hohe List is a prominent elevation in the southern Palatinate Forest, in the heart of Wasgau, the mountain region near the border between Germany and France. The hut at the summit is a catered mountain hut, operated in cooperation with the Pfälzerwald-Verein (Palatinate Forest Association). Its location – high up, in the dense mixed forest, with hiking opportunities in all directions – makes the hut a popular day destination for hikers from all over the Palatinate.

Forest and Wine Festival as a Season Highlight

Once a year, the hut hosts the Forest and Wine Festival. "Forest" and "Wine" combine to create a festival concept: catering with Palatinate wine and regional specialties, all under the canopy of the Wasgau mixed forest. It is one of those festivals that showcases Palatinate identity in its purest form: hiking and wine, conviviality and forest, all in one.

Wasgau-Musikanten Busenberg

Musically, the festival features the Wasgau-Musikanten Busenberg, a brass band from neighboring Busenberg, which enjoys an excellent reputation in the region. From 12 PM, they play for the Frühschoppen and during the lunch service, with a classic brass band repertoire ranging from polkas and marches to modern hits. The combination of brass music and forest festival atmosphere is one of the unique experiences of Palatinate festival culture.

Catering on the Mountain Slope

The culinary side follows the tradition of Palatinate mountain hut festivals: Saumagen, bratwurst, Leberknödel (liver dumplings), grilled steaks, fries, accompanied by Palatinate wine, draft beer, and Schorle (wine or juice mixed with sparkling water). The atmosphere is relaxed, tables are set under the trees, and the view extends over the Wasgau forests. Those planning their day can arrive on foot via one of the marked hiking trails from Busenberg or Dahn, eat and drink at the Hohe List, and hike back in the afternoon.
