The largest and longest Advent market on the High Rhine — for over a month
Waldshut-Tiengen is located on the High Rhine, directly on the Swiss border, at the transition from the southern Black Forest to the Alpine foothills. The historic old town of the twin city (Waldshut and Tiengen were merged in 1975) is one of the most beautiful cityscapes on the High Rhine — with the gates of the former city fortifications (Schaffhauser Tor, Oberes Tor), Kaiserstraße as the central pedestrian zone, and an unusually well-preserved medieval substance. From November 21 to December 22, 2026, this Kaiserstraße will become the stage for the Waldshut Christmas Market.
With over 30 stalls and huts, Waldshut is one of the largest Advent markets on the High Rhine. The offerings are diverse: handicrafts from the region — from blown glass from Black Forest furnaces to wooden figures from Tiengen workshops and wool products from the Canton of Schaffhausen. In addition, honey from the Black Forest, candles, Advent decorations, and the full range of sweet and savory specialties.
The landmark of the market is the large Waldshut Christmas pyramid — one of the tallest on the High Rhine. The pyramid team serves mulled wine, punch, and non-alcoholic hot drinks from the ground floor. Above the bar, the artfully painted figures rotate — a sight that is visible from afar from Kaiserstraße.
With five weeks of market duration, Waldshut is one of the longest Christmas markets in Baden-Württemberg. This allows for relaxed visits during the week — in the evening after work, on weekends for families from the High Rhine and for Swiss day-trippers from Schaffhausen, Zurich, or Basel. The market is centrally located, reachable in 5 minutes on foot from Waldshut train station, and has several parking facilities in the immediate vicinity.
The Waldshut Christmas Market 2026 takes place from Saturday, November 21 to Tuesday, December 22, 2026, on Kaiserstraße. The organizer is the city of Waldshut-Tiengen in cooperation with the city marketing. Over 30 stalls and huts line the historic pedestrian zone — from handicrafts and Advent decorations to specialties from Baden and Switzerland.
The landmark is the large Waldshut Christmas pyramid with mulled wine service on the ground floor.
