Wandering Pentecost Volksfest of the Steinkirchen Administrative District in the Holzland
The Holzlandvolksfest is the joint Volksfest (people's festival) of the four Holzland municipalities in the Erding district, state of Bavaria: Hohenpolding, Inning am Holz, Kirchberg, and Steinkirchen. Under the umbrella of the Steinkirchen administrative district, the Holzlandvolksfest GbR organizes a joint festival every year, which rotates from one municipality to the next. This keeps the Holzland spirit alive and ensures that each municipality regularly experiences "its" Volksfest.
After Inning am Holz (2025, 46th edition), it's the municipality of Kirchberg's turn in 2026 – specifically the district of Schröding, where the festival grounds and the Schröding school association are located. From May 21st to 25th, 2026, during the extended Pentecost weekend, the large festival tent will be set up in Schröding. Co-organizers are the Schröding school association and the Holzland water utility association.
Traditionally, the Holzlandvolksfest begins on Thursday with the traditional parade from the town center to the festival tent, accompanied by marksmen and brass bands. Inside the tent, the mayor taps the first barrel in the beer tapping ceremony. Friday features Family Day with reduced ride prices and a joint "Hoizland-Rundn-Radltour" (Holzland Circular Bike Tour) of the four Holzland municipalities. The weekend is filled with live bands, sports competitions, Pentecost rose customs, and a rock-Bavarian festival evening.
Pentecost Monday is traditionally dedicated to a morning pint (Frühschoppen), lunch, and a final festival evening with a Bavarian band (most recently Tetrapack or Musehaufa at the Inning festival in 2025). The Holzlandvolksfest concludes on Monday evening, and the festival tent is dismantled in the following days.
The Holzland is a small landscape-cultural region on the eastern edge of the Erding district – rolling hills, forests, small villages. The Steinkirchen administrative district cultivates a shared, identity-forming festival with the Holzlandvolksfest, which connects the residents of the four municipalities and keeps the Holzland tradition alive.
From May 21st to 25th, 2026, Kirchberg, with its district of Schröding, will host the Holzlandvolksfest. The festival will open on Thursday, May 21st (Ascension Day), with the traditional parade of clubs, the mayors' beer tapping ceremony, and the opening in the festival tent.
On Friday and Saturday, live bands, sports competitions, and the "Hoizland-Rundn-Radltour" will shape the program. Pentecost Sunday and Monday will form the highlight with morning pints, lunch, and festival evenings. Bavarian party bands will provide the atmosphere in the festival tent, and amusement rides will spin on the festival grounds.
Free admission. Food and drinks in the festival tent at typical Bavarian Volksfest prices (liter mug of beer, half a chicken, bratwurst). Amusement rides paid individually; reduced prices on Family Day.
Schröding is located about 15 km northeast of Erding and 6 km east of Dorfen. Arrive by car via Staatsstraße 2086 / B 388. From Dorfen train station, take a regional bus or taxi. Parking is available at the Schröding festival grounds.
Free admission. Food and drinks are sold in the festival tent at typical Bavarian Volksfest prices. Family Day offers reduced ride prices.
Pentecost Sunday and Monday for live bands, family programs, and the parade; Pentecost Saturday for the "Hoizland-Rundn" bike tour.
