About Holzlandvolksfest

The Holzlandvolksfest is a wandering Volksfest (people's festival) that the four municipalities of the Steinkirchen administrative district in the Upper Bavarian Holzland (Erding district) organize in rotation: Hohenpolding, Inning am Holz, Kirchberg, and Steinkirchen. In 2026, it's Kirchberg's turn; the festival will take place from May 21st to 25th, 2026, in the Schröding district on the festival grounds. Over five Pentecost days, there will be a festival tent, a parade of clubs, a beer tapping ceremony by the mayor, live bands, sports competitions, and a family program.

A Volksfest, Four Municipalities, One Holzland

The Holzlandvolksfest is the joint Volksfest (people's festival) of the four Holzland municipalities in the Erding district, state of Bavaria: Hohenpolding, Inning am Holz, Kirchberg, and Steinkirchen. Under the umbrella of the Steinkirchen administrative district, the Holzlandvolksfest GbR organizes a joint festival every year, which rotates from one municipality to the next. This keeps the Holzland spirit alive and ensures that each municipality regularly experiences "its" Volksfest.

2026: Schröding near Kirchberg

After Inning am Holz (2025, 46th edition), it's the municipality of Kirchberg's turn in 2026 – specifically the district of Schröding, where the festival grounds and the Schröding school association are located. From May 21st to 25th, 2026, during the extended Pentecost weekend, the large festival tent will be set up in Schröding. Co-organizers are the Schröding school association and the Holzland water utility association.

Pentecost Weekend with Five Festival Days

Traditionally, the Holzlandvolksfest begins on Thursday with the traditional parade from the town center to the festival tent, accompanied by marksmen and brass bands. Inside the tent, the mayor taps the first barrel in the beer tapping ceremony. Friday features Family Day with reduced ride prices and a joint "Hoizland-Rundn-Radltour" (Holzland Circular Bike Tour) of the four Holzland municipalities. The weekend is filled with live bands, sports competitions, Pentecost rose customs, and a rock-Bavarian festival evening.

Festival Monday as a Finale

Pentecost Monday is traditionally dedicated to a morning pint (Frühschoppen), lunch, and a final festival evening with a Bavarian band (most recently Tetrapack or Musehaufa at the Inning festival in 2025). The Holzlandvolksfest concludes on Monday evening, and the festival tent is dismantled in the following days.

Holzland Identity

The Holzland is a small landscape-cultural region on the eastern edge of the Erding district – rolling hills, forests, small villages. The Steinkirchen administrative district cultivates a shared, identity-forming festival with the Holzlandvolksfest, which connects the residents of the four municipalities and keeps the Holzland tradition alive.

  • Wandering system between Hohenpolding, Inning, Kirchberg, Steinkirchen
  • 2026 in Schröding (Municipality of Kirchberg)
  • 5 festival days over Pentecost
  • Parade, beer tapping, live bands
