About Weinsommer Gemmrigheim
Weinsommer Gemmrigheim — edition 2026
Five Months of Wine Experience
The 2026 edition invites you to an extended steep slope experience from early summer to the beginning of autumn. The format is deliberately decentralized: no single festival tent weekend, but many small events spread over five months. You can come to the big event day on Ascension Day (May 14th) in the vineyards or explore the entire summer program in smaller doses.
Current dates, guided hikes, winery opening hours, and wine wagon locations are continuously updated in the municipality's event calendar and official gazette.

Steep Slope Viticulture on the Neckar
Gemmrigheim is one of Württemberg's most traditional wine-growing communities. With its steep Neckar slopes — up to 60% gradient — it is among the most demanding wine-growing sites in Germany. Trollinger, Lemberger, Riesling, and Müller-Thurgau grow here on shell limestone soils, hand-picked, and vinified in small family wineries or by the winegrowers' cooperative. The award-winning steep slope wines are known beyond the region and are an important element of the community's identity.
Wine Summer as a Festival Format
The Gemmrigheim Wine Summer is not a one-off weekend, but a festival format extended over five months. From early May to the end of September 2026, participating wineries will open their doors for tastings, the wine wagon will be set up at changing locations in the community, guided hikes will explore the vineyards, and on special event days — like Ascension Day — the entire steep slope area becomes an open wine park.
Hiking and Cycling Through the Vineyards
Signposted routes lead through the Gemmrigheim vineyards. The wine hiking trail connects the most important viewpoints with the wineries — a five to eight-kilometer relaxed hill tour, ideal for a long weekend. The Neckar Valley Cycle Path also makes it easy to explore Gemmrigheim and the neighboring communities of Hessigheim, Mundelsheim, and Besigheim by bicycle.
Ascension Day Event (May 14th, 2026)
On Ascension Day — May 14th, 2026 — the highlight of the Wine Summer takes place: an event day in the steep slopes. Several wineries set up tasting stands directly in the vineyards, the wine wagon travels through the town, live music accompanies the hikers, and the steep slope concept is the focus throughout the community. A classic Father's Day, celebrated in Gemmrigheim as a wine hiking day.
Participating Wineries and the Wine Wagon
Several family wineries and the winegrowers' cooperative participate in the Wine Summer. The exact opening hours and tasting dates vary — the current status will be published in the event calendar of the municipality of Gemmrigheim and in the official gazette. The "Gemmrigheim Wine Wagon" — a mobile wine bar — travels to changing locations during the summer, making the steep slope wine directly accessible in the town.
Gemmrigheim in the Ludwigsburg District
Gemmrigheim is located in the Ludwigsburg district in Baden-Württemberg, on the right bank of the Neckar between Heilbronn and Stuttgart. The community, with its approximately 4,000 inhabitants, is part of the "Württembergisches Unterland" and belongs to the Württemberg wine region, one of Germany's northernmost wine-growing regions.
