Lower Bavarian Volksfest with a festival tent on the SVE sports grounds by the Baderbach
Essenbach is a market town with around 13,000 inhabitants in the district of Landshut, about 10 km north of the city of Landshut in the Lower Bavarian Isar valley. Economically shaped by the nearby Isar nuclear power plant (in Niederaichbach) and the pharmaceutical producer Stragen Pharma, culturally the Essenbacher Volksfest and the local shooting and sports clubs are among the established institutions.
The Essenbacher Volksfest is not a "major festival" like the Landshut Spring Dult or the Munich Oktoberfest, but a typical Lower Bavarian summer folk festival at the market town level: three days of festival tent, carousels, shooting gallery, gingerbread hearts, bratwurst, and roast chicken, draft beer. It takes place every year at the end of June and is organized by the Essenbach Sports Club (SVE) as the main organizer, who fills its club coffers with the proceeds from the festival tent operation.
The festival begins on Friday evening with the tapping of the first keg, continues on Saturday with the classic festival day, and ends on Sunday with a morning pint (Frühschoppen) and a family afternoon. The festival host provides the atmosphere in the beer tent with a traditional festival band. The Mass of beer cost €8 during the Happy Hour (6–9 PM) at the 2025 event – a moderate price compared to large Bavarian folk festivals. Admission is free.
Bavaria has a very dense folk festival landscape in the summer – every larger market town in the district of Landshut has its own folk festival, sometimes as a stall festival, sometimes as a festival tent format. The Essenbacher Volksfest is one of the fixed dates in the June and July folk festival circuit around Landshut.
The Essenbach Volksfest 2026 is expected to take place from June 26 to 28, 2026, on the Baderbach sports grounds – as in previous years, on the last weekend of June. Official confirmation from the Essenbach Sports Club (SVE) is expected in spring 2026; the exact date may shift by one weekend.
The usual three festival days are expected: Friday with the tapping of the first keg in the evening, Saturday as the main festival day with live music from the festival band, and Sunday with a morning pint (Frühschoppen) and a family afternoon. Carousels, shooting galleries, and small amusement rides complement the festival tent. During the Happy Hour (evening hours), the Mass cost €8 in 2025 – a comparable price is expected for 2026.
Program and band names will be announced in spring 2026 via the Markt Essenbach and SVE websites, as well as through the local press (Landshuter Zeitung, Rundschau24).
