The showcase of the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle with fashion show, design rooms, and Master Take-Off
The Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle — 'the Burg' for short — is one of the most traditional and renowned art universities in Germany. Located on the hill of Burg Giebichenstein in the north of Halle, it builds on a rich tradition from the Bauhaus environment and significantly shapes contemporary German design. Anyone studying industrial design, fashion design, art, or multimedia design in Germany today knows Halle as the address.
Once a year — typically in mid-July — the Burg opens its doors for the Annual Exhibition: a comprehensive showcase of all studios, workshops, and classes from the past two semesters. Bachelor's and Master's final projects from design and art are presented, along with class exhibitions, performance spaces, and installation works. The 2026 exhibition takes place from July 17 to 19.
The show opens on Friday, July 17, at 7:30 PM — and it's spectacular: For the first time, the fashion show will take place in the Sparkassen-Eisdom at Selkestraße 1. An unusual, impressive location that opens up new spatial and scenic perspectives for the fashion show's staging, according to the university. The fashion show is a highlight for students of the fashion design classes and a must-attend event for the fashion scene in Eastern Germany.
Parallel to the main exhibition, 'Take Off 2026 — Master Students' runs in the Burg Galerie in Volkspark, a special exhibition by the master's students, open from July 16 to August 9. On Saturday and Sunday (July 18 and 19), all university locations throughout the city are open — Campus Design, Hermes Building, Campus Kunst. A free shuttle service connects the locations. Admission is completely free, and portfolio consultations are offered for prospective students. A must-attend event for anyone serious about art and design in the state of Saxony-Anhalt.
