Halloween in one of Germany's most beautiful mountain zoos
The Bergzoo Halle is located on the Reilsberg in the Kröllwitz/Dölau district — on a rocky plateau above the Saale river, a zoological garden with an unusually rocky character and a diverse animal population. What is a relaxed family outing in the summer becomes something different in October: The Gruselzoo turns the animal enclosures into a Halloween experience world.
Laser show and fire performance at dusk
The central elements of the program are the laser show and the fire show, which take place multiple times each evening at different points in the zoo. In between, zombie actors, witches, and other spooky figures roam the paths — they pursue, frighten, lure, and create the typical Halloween atmosphere. The paths through the animal enclosures are equipped with light effects and multi-story decorations at dusk.
Three Halloween nights as a highlight
In addition to the standard Gruselzoo operation (Wednesday to Sunday, 5:00 PM–9:00 PM), there are three major Halloween nights — special events with an expanded program, longer opening hours, exclusive show acts, and a special atmosphere. These Halloween nights regularly sell out completely. Recommendation: book early as soon as the dates for 2026 are announced.
Halle, Saalehang, and Saalkreis Region
The Bergzoo is located in the northern part of Halle (Saale), above the Saale slope. In a broader sense, the region is part of the Saaletal natural landscape, which continues north of the city — Burg Giebichenstein, Dölauer Heide, and the Saale river itself are nearby. Those visiting the Gruselzoo can combine the day with a walk through Halle — the Market Square, Händel House, and Burg Giebichenstein offer a quick cultural tour.
