The big summer city festival of the Saarland industrial city
Neunkirchen — the district town in the Neunkirchen district, once home to the Neunkirchen Ironworks — presents itself from its modern, urban side at the city festival on the last weekend in June. Organizer Neunkircher Kulturgesellschaft (NK-Kultur) brings live music, show acts, family programs, and culinary diversity to the city center for two days. Thousands of visitors from Saarland, Rhineland-Palatinate, and France flock to the city between Saarbrücken and Homburg every year.
The concept relies on spatial distribution: The Stummplatz with the historical Stumm monument — a reminder of the industrialist Stumm family that shaped Neunkirchen's history — is the main stage. The Lindenallee offers a second stage with cover and show bands, and the Hammergraben (area behind the Saarpark-Center) a third, focusing on newcomers and local bands. Between the stages, there are food and drink stands, amusement rides, cocktail bars, and children's activities.
The 2026 program features several top acts: On Saturday evening around 11 PM, the AC/DC tribute band She's Got TNT will thrill the Stummplatz with a combined laser show — a spectacle that has become a tradition in Neunkirchen and attracts thousands of rock fans. During the day, young boxers compete in the amateur boxing championships, which have been a highlight at Hammergraben for years. For the youngest guests, there's the German children's metal band Heavysaurus with their interactive show.
Parallel to the city festival, the Neunkircher Kulturgesellschaft operates the Gebläsehalle (converted industrial building with a concert hall), the Stummhalle, and the lecture series “NK-Kultur Highlights.” During the 2026 City Festival weekend, for example, BAP will also play in the Neue Gebläsehalle — a parallel major concert for the older target audience. Those who spend a weekend in Neunkirchen can combine both perfectly.
As you walk through the festival mile, it's worth taking a look at the remaining blast furnace facilities around the Stummplatz and the impressive Gebläsehalle. Besides Völklingen, Neunkirchen is the second major industrial culture site in Saarland — and the city festival implicitly celebrates this identity.
Organizer Neunkircher Kulturgesellschaft has scheduled the 2026 City Festival for the last weekend in June. Three stages, several thousand liters of Karlsberg beer, amusement rides, a newcomer stage — the proven mix. In parallel, there will be a BAP concert on Friday evening in the Neue Gebläsehalle (separate admission).
