About DB Museum Summer Festival

The DB Museum Koblenz-Lützel is one of Germany's most important railway museums and celebrates its extensive vehicle collection with its annual Summer Festival. In the summer of 2026, the railway depot on Schönbornsluster Straße will transform into a festival ground centred around locomotives and railcars from over 150 years of railway history. The highlight is the grand locomotive parade featuring around 20 historic vehicles, from the steam engines of the early railway era to electric locomotives from the 1930s and modern ICE high-speed trains. Also featured: model railway exhibitions, face painting for children, railway-themed gastronomy, rides, and special guided tours.

The DB Museum Koblenz-Lützel is an external site of the DB Museum Nuremberg and one of the most significant locations for historic railway vehicles in Germany. On the grounds of a former railway depot on Schönbornsluster Straße 14 in the Koblenz district of Lützel, over 200 historic locomotives, railcars, wagons, and special vehicles are preserved. A key collection comprises electric locomotives and multiple units of the Deutsche Bundesbahn and Deutsche Reichsbahn.

25 Years of the Koblenz Site

The museum has existed in its current form since 2001, celebrating a quarter-century as a pilgrimage site for railway enthusiasts on the Middle Rhine. It is regularly open from April to September on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The annual Summer Festival is the social and museum-educational highlight of the season, attracting railway fans from all over Germany.

The Grand Locomotive Parade

The centrepiece of the Summer Festival is the grand locomotive parade, with around 20 historic vehicles moving one by one before the audience. Steam locomotives with hissing chimneys, robust diesel locomotives, elegant electric locomotives of DRG/DB tradition, and modern multiple units offer a unique visual and acoustic spectacle. Expert commentary explains the history of each vehicle.

Family Programme

In addition to the locomotive parade, there is an extensive family programme: model railway exhibitions with elaborate layouts from several model railway clubs, face painting with railway motifs for children, special guided tours through the workshop areas, rides on handcars or small trains, and gastronomic offerings with a railway flair.

Koblenz Railway Hub

For over 150 years, Koblenz was one of the most important railway hubs in West Germany. Its location on the Rhine, the Moselle, and the vital east-west connection from the Belgian border via Cologne to Berlin made the city a central focal point of railway history. The DB Museum keeps this history alive and makes it accessible to a broad audience with its Summer Festival.

DB Museum Summer Festival — edition 2026

The 2026 Summer Festival of the DB Museum Koblenz-Lützel will take place, as every year, on a summer weekend at the site on Schönbornsluster Straße 14. Planned are the grand locomotive parade with around 20 historic vehicles, model railway exhibitions, rides, special guided tours, a children's programme with face painting, and a gastronomic offering with a railway flair. The exact date will be announced by the museum in spring on dbmuseum.de/koblenz/veranstaltungen. A highlight of the railway season on the Middle Rhine.

The 2026 Summer Festival marks a seasonal highlight for the DB Museum Koblenz-Lützel. The exact date will be published by the museum in spring.
