The Baking Day in Aschen is one of the loveliest small village events in the Diepholz district. The Local History Museum at Schulweg 1, with its historic oven, is a meeting point for residents of the village and visitors from the region. Here, tradition, craftsmanship, and flea market culture come together — without grand staging, but with plenty of atmosphere.

Bread from the Historic Oven

The oven is heated several hours before the Baking Day opens. As soon as the right temperature is reached, the members of the local history association put their hand-kneaded loaves of bread into the oven. The scent of fresh bread hangs over the grounds, and the first loaves are usually sold to waiting visitors by midday.

Flea Market at the Museum

Parallel to the baking, vendors set up their stalls on the museum grounds. The flea market is manageable but charming: household goods, books, toys, curiosities — a classic village flea market, typical of the Low German cultural preservation.
