About Baking Day Aschen

The Baking Day with Flea Market at the Aschen Local History Museum combines old crafts with the charm of a village flea market. On the grounds in the village of Aschen, a district of the town of Diepholz, the local history association heats up the historic oven and produces fresh bread according to old recipes. In parallel, residents and flea market vendors set up their stalls, and visitors can browse in a relaxed atmosphere, buy fresh bread, and visit the local history museum. On July 5, 2026, the Baking Day will open its doors again.

Crafts and Village Life

The Baking Day in Aschen is one of the loveliest small village events in the Diepholz district. The Local History Museum at Schulweg 1, with its historic oven, is a meeting point for residents of the village and visitors from the region. Here, tradition, craftsmanship, and flea market culture come together — without grand staging, but with plenty of atmosphere.

Bread from the Historic Oven

The oven is heated several hours before the Baking Day opens. As soon as the right temperature is reached, the members of the local history association put their hand-kneaded loaves of bread into the oven. The scent of fresh bread hangs over the grounds, and the first loaves are usually sold to waiting visitors by midday.

Flea Market at the Museum

Parallel to the baking, vendors set up their stalls on the museum grounds. The flea market is manageable but charming: household goods, books, toys, curiosities — a classic village flea market, typical of the Low German cultural preservation.

Aschen Local History Association

Behind the Baking Day is the Aschen Local History Association, which keeps the museum and its events alive through volunteer commitment. Contact: [email protected].

Baking Day Aschen — edition 2026

On Sunday, July 5, 2026, the Aschen Local History Museum opens its doors for the Baking Day with Flea Market. The historic oven will be heated, and fresh bread according to old recipes will come out of the oven throughout the day. In parallel, a small flea market on the museum grounds offers household goods, books, and curiosities. Visitors can tour the museum, enjoy refreshments at the café, and chat with the members of the local history association.

The Baking Day is a typical example of village culture supported by volunteers. Without grand staging, but with plenty of atmosphere, it brings tradition and encounters to one place. Anyone who wants to experience the real North Germany will find a relaxed Sunday event here.
