About Wine Festival Frickenhausen

The Frickenhausen Wine Festival is one of the most traditional wine festivals on the Franconian Main river. For four days, from Friday to Monday in mid-August, locals and guests celebrate on the festival grounds by the Main river, against the unique backdrop of Frickenhausen's completely preserved medieval town fortifications. The festival is traditionally opened by Markgraf Babenberg, the symbolic figure of the wine community. With Franconian wine, Frühschoppen (morning pint), and the concluding Kesselfleischessen (pork stew), the festival embodies the wine culture of the Lower Franconian district of Würzburg.

Wine Culture on the Main

The Frickenhausen Wine Festival is a fixture in the festival calendar of the Franconian wine region. The venue is the festival grounds on the Main river in Frickenhausen, one of the most beautiful wine villages in the Mainviereck. The completely preserved medieval town fortifications with gates and towers form the unmistakable backdrop for the four-day festival.

Four Days of Tradition

The wine festival takes place in mid-August from Friday to Monday and follows a well-established schedule:

  • Friday evening: festive opening by Markgraf Babenberg, the symbolic figure of the wine community
  • Saturday evening: another appearance by the traditional festival figure
  • Sunday: Frühschoppen in the morning, festival continues in the afternoon
  • Monday evening: traditional Kesselfleischessen to conclude

Organizers and Atmosphere

The festival is jointly organized by two Frickenhausen clubs, the cycling club "Solidarität" 1921 and TSV Frickenhausen 1901. The focus is on the Franconian wines of local vintners, accompanied by hearty specialties and a lively festival atmosphere on the banks of the Main.

Frickenhausen am Main in the District of Würzburg

Frickenhausen am Main is located in the Lower Franconian district of Würzburg, opposite Ochsenfurt am Main. The wine village, enclosed by a complete town wall, is a gem of the Franconian wine region – the wine festival makes this wine culture and history tangible for visitors from the entire region.
