A City Festival with an Animal Mascot
Since 1979, the Ochsenfurter Ochsenfest has been the big old town festival in the town of Ochsenfurt am Main in the Lower Franconian district of Würzburg. Organized by Stadtmarketing e. V. Ochsenfurt, the festival transforms the pedestrian zone of the main street into a lively festival mile on a Saturday in September. The namesake is the ox, the town's mascot, in whose honor the ox parade marches across the historic old Main bridge.
The Ox Parade
The highlight and trademark of the festival is the Ox Parade, which enters the old town across the historic old Main bridge in the morning. In front of the town hall, the town's mascot is traditionally prepared for consumption – a spectacle that attracts numerous visitors every year.
Program Throughout the Old Town
On the main stage at the town hall, guests can expect a varied day program of music and show acts, from the school band of the Realschule to the Ochsenfurt town band to the dance groups of TV Ochsenfurt. The Ochsenfurt rowing club organizes a boat crossing from the Old to the New Pier, in which the fire department, water rescue, and DLRG also participate. A flea market with colorful stalls and an extensive children's program round off the day.
