About Pfingstkerwe Maximiliansau

The Pfingstkerwe Maximiliansau is a classic South Palatinate Kerwe festival and celebrates the patron saint of the parish church in the Wörth district of Maximiliansau over the Pentecost weekend. A central festival tent is set up on the Kerweplatz at Kreuzweg, where local clubs, the Kerweborsch (Kerwe lads), and the community provide food and drink, music, and dancing for three days. The Kerwerede, with the traditional scolding about the events in the village, the serving of Kerwebier (Kerwe beer), and the Saturday evening dance are the central program points. An authentic piece of Palatinate traditional culture.

The Pfingstkerwe Maximiliansau is a typical representative of the South Palatinate Kerwe tradition. Maximiliansau is a district of Wörth am Rhein, directly on the left bank of the Rhine opposite Karlsruhe, and has cultivated its own club and festival culture for generations.

Significance of the Kerwe

Kerwe (from Middle High German kirchweihe) refers to the patron saint's festival of a parish church and is one of the most important village festival formats in the Palatinate. Unlike in Bavaria, the Kerwe is not primarily celebrated as a large folk festival, but as a community parish festival with strong club life. The Kerweborsch (Kerwe lads) take on the role of the informal festival committee and organize, among other things, the Kerwerede.

Schedule in Maximiliansau

The Kerwe opens on Pentecost Sunday with festival tent operations on the Kerweplatz at Kreuzweg. Local clubs serve Palatinate specialties all day long, followed by the first dance evening with live music or a DJ. Pentecost Monday, with its morning pint and all-day catering, forms the relaxed festival day. The third day (Tuesday) is marked by the traditional Kerwerede evening with the Kerweborsch, who reflect on and comment on the events in the district over the past year in a humorous address.

Food and Drinks

Classic Palatinate specialties are served: Bratwurst, steak, fries, Saumagen, Leberknödel, potato salad, as well as the obligatory Kerwebier in large quantities, Palatinate wine, and Schorle.
