Freiburger Herbstmess'

A Tradition Since 1927

The Freiburger Mess' has a long history: As early as 1927, the fair, held twice a year (spring and autumn), emerged as one of the oldest Volksfeste in Southern Baden. In the autumn of 1999, the first Herbstmess' in its current form took place on the outdoor grounds of Messe Freiburg, which had just opened. In 2026, the Herbstmess' celebrates its 50th anniversary at this location — a double occasion for celebration.

11 Days of Funfair on the Neuen Messplatz

From Friday, October 16, to Monday, October 26, 2026, the Neuen Messplatz in the Brühl district will be filled with rides, showmen, food stalls, and game stands. Over 100 exhibitors promise offerings ranging from cozy and family-friendly to high-adrenaline: classic carousels, a Ferris wheel, Wilde Maus, roller coaster, haunted house, bumper cars — and spectacular traveling rides that only visit Freiburg for a few days.

Festival Tent and Gastronomy

The large festival tent serves draft beer, wine, Baden specialties, and classics of festival tent cuisine. Outside the tent: Currywurst, Magenbrot, roasted almonds, crêpes, pizza, Lángos, Federweißer, mulled wine, and Halloween specialties. Vegetarian and vegan options are available at several stalls.

Family Day and Grand Finale Firework Display

As every year, there will be a Family Day with reduced prices at many rides and stalls, as well as numerous activities for children. The traditional finale is a grand firework display on the last evening of the festival — usually on Monday evening from 9:00 PM.

In Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald

Freiburg is located in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district (urban district) in southwestern Baden-Württemberg, framed by the Black Forest, Kaiserstuhl, and the Rhine plain. The Herbstmess' takes advantage of its central location and is a fixed autumn date for Freiburg residents and visitors from Southern Baden, Alsace, and the Swiss border region.
