About Winninger Genussmarkt

The Winninger Genussmarkt is the autumn specialty market of the Mosel community of Winningen. On October 11, 2026, the historic village square will transform into a culinary stage with regional producers, vintners, manufacturers, and small delicacies from the Untermosel region. Amidst half-timbered houses and in the picturesque village center, producers will present Mosel wines, cheese, bread, honey, jams, game specialties, brandies, and liqueurs, handmade sweets, and seasonal harvest products. The market will be accompanied by music, a children's program, and gastronomic break opportunities in Winningen's wine taverns and cafés. Free admission. An ideal occasion for an autumn excursion into the Mosel valley.

In autumn, when the vineyards of the Untermosel are adorned with golden and copper-red foliage and the grape harvest is complete, Winningen invites you to its Genussmarkt (delicacy market). The Mosel community at the entrance to the Terrassenmosel (terraced Mosel) between Koblenz and Cochem is known for its vineyards, its historic village center with half-timbered houses, and its long history as a significant wine-growing town. The Genussmarkt in October is a relatively young, but now firmly established event that positions Winningen as a culinary destination.

Winningen's historic village square forms the stage: around fountains and half-timbered houses, producers present their products. The vintners of the Untermosel present their white wines – especially the Riesling that grows on the terraced steep slopes around Winningen – as well as Burgundy varieties and increasingly also sparkling wine made using traditional bottle fermentation. Cheese dairies, beekeepers, bakeries, game processors, distilleries, chocolatiers, and manufacturers from the region complement the offerings.

Unlike a typical farmers' market, the focus is clearly on gourmet products: specialties intended as souvenirs and for the home table, of high quality and often with interesting stories and production traditions. Many producers are present at their stands, offer extensive advice, and provide tastings. For visitors, it is an opportunity to discover the culinary diversity of the Mosel-Untermosel region compactly in one morning and afternoon.

Musical accompaniment, a children's program, and gastronomic offerings round off the market visit. Winningen's wine taverns and cafés in the immediate vicinity of the village square also offer the opportunity to enjoy regional cuisine while seated. The Winninger Genussmarkt is excellently suited as a prelude or conclusion to an autumn hike through the vineyards – for example, via the Felsentreppe (rock staircase) or the Moselsteig trail – and attracts visitors from Koblenz, Cochem, the Maifeld, and the entire Middle Rhine region.

In Winningen's event calendar, the Genussmarkt is listed between the Moselfest at the end of August (Germany's oldest vintner festival), the Spring of the Eierkibben, and the pre-Christmas event Winningen im Lichterglanz (Winningen in the Glow of Lights). Those who want to experience the Untermosel with all their senses can combine a visit to the Genussmarkt with stays in Winningen's wineries and an overnight stay in one of the Mosel hotels.
