Spring wine tasting at Willi-Hörter-Platz featuring wines from the four Koblenz vineyards
A major German city with four of its own vineyard sites – Koblenz is unique in this respect. The districts of Ehrenbreitstein, Güls, Lay, and Moselweiß each have their own vineyards where wine has been cultivated for centuries. The Spring Wine Tasting of the Koblenz Wine Festival showcases these four Koblenz vineyard sites with their spring vintages.
The venue is Willi-Hörter-Platz around the famous Schängelbrunnen fountain, which Koblenz residents consider a symbol of their city. The Schängel figure, a cheeky boy statue, has been the symbol of the unconventional Koblenz citizen for generations. Here, in the middle of the city centre between Forum Mittelrhein and Münzplatz, an open-air setting is created with tasting stands from participating wineries, a stage, and catering.
Visitors to the Spring Wine Tasting can taste the wines from the four Koblenz vineyard sites side by side. Each site has its own character: Ehrenbreitstein with its south-facing slopes above the Rhine, Güls and Lay on the left bank of the Moselle with classic steep Moselle slopes, Moselweiß with the vineyard designation Hamm. Most of the sites are managed by small family wineries, who have the opportunity here to engage directly with the public.
The Spring Wine Tasting will be accompanied by musical performances. The exact choice of artists will be announced in advance by the organizer on weinfestival-koblenz.de. Previous editions featured acoustic bands, singer-songwriters, or jazz trios that enhanced the atmosphere of an open-air brunch in the spring sunshine.
The Spring Wine Tasting is part of the Koblenz Wine Festival (May 8 – July 11, 2026) and immediately follows the opening weekend at Josef-Görres-Platz (May 8–10). Anyone in Koblenz on May 10 can combine both formats – the opening Sunday and the Spring Wine Tasting – and experience the city's spring wine culture.
On Sunday, May 10, 2026, Willi-Hörter-Platz will transform into an open wine mile with tasting stands, a stage, and catering for the Spring Wine Tasting. The exact program – stands, stage, times, music – will be published in advance by the organizer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years.
