Festival of New Drama at the Deutsches Theater Berlin
The Autor:innen Theater Tage (ATT) is the most important German festival for New Drama – that is, for contemporary theatre texts and productions from the German-speaking world. The ATT is organized by the Deutsches Theater Berlin on Schumannstraße in the Mitte district. Since 2002, the theatre has annually showcased a selection of the most important contemporary productions, making Berlin a meeting point for the German-speaking theatre scene of today.
The ATT program is divided into three distinct pillars:
During the two festival weeks, around eleven new plays will be shown as Berlin premieres – mostly productions that previously premiered at another German-speaking theatre and are now being presented in Berlin as guest performances. Accompanying events include:
The Deutsches Theater at Schumannstraße 13a is one of Germany's most traditional spoken word theatres and is located in the Mitte district, just a few minutes from Berlin Central Station. With its three stages (Großes Haus, Kammerspiele, Box), it offers ideal conditions for staging several productions per day over two festival weeks.
Starting with the 2025/26 season, Lilly Busch will lead the festival (succeeding Bernd Isele). This marks the beginning of a new phase for the ATT – the 2025/26 Atelier brings together authors Simone Saftig, Marcus Peter Tesch, and Gesa Geue.
The ATT 2026 mark the transition to a new festival phase: Lilly Busch takes over the festival direction from Bernd Isele and makes her initial mark with the edition from June 6–20, 2026. Eleven Berlin premieres from the German-speaking world will be presented on the stages of the Deutsches Theater.
The festival concludes on Saturday, June 20, 2026, with the "Lange Nacht der Autor:innen": On one evening, the workshop presentations of the three resident authors Simone Saftig, Marcus Peter Tesch, and Gesa Geue will be accessible with a single ticket. This will be accompanied by live music and a concluding program.
Throughout the two festival weeks, there will also be theatre tours, workshops for young people aged 14 and over, readings, audience discussions, concerts, and DJ sets in the courtyard.
