The smartest night of the year in the heart of Berlin
The Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften was founded in Berlin in 2001 — one of Europe's oldest citizen science formats. Since then, every June, more than 60 Berlin and Potsdam universities, research institutes, and science museums open their doors to a broad audience: not students, not a specialist conference, but families, school classes, seniors, and curious tourists.
In the Mitte district, the program focuses on Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin — Europe's largest university hospital. The Campus Mitte at Charitéplatz 1 offers around 85 program points: keynotes on chronobiology and autoimmune diseases, lectures from dentistry, science slams, interactive workshops, games about the immune system for children, medical history exhibitions, lab tours. In addition, the German Rheumatism Research Centre (DRFZ), the Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology, and the Museum für Naturkunde are open; DIW Berlin will be a guest in 2026.
Berlin is represented in the Lange Nacht with five science clusters: Mitte (Charité, MPI, Museum für Naturkunde), Adlershof (Science Park), Dahlem (Freie Universität, Max Planck), Charlottenburg (Technical University), Wedding (Beuth Hochschule). The Mitte program, with its extensive medical content, is the most interesting location for families interested in life sciences.
On Saturday, June 6, 2026, Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin opens Campus Mitte from 5 PM to 12 AM for the Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften. Around 85 program points are presented by over 400 researchers: keynotes on chronobiology and autoimmune diseases, lectures from dentistry, a science slam for entertainment, immune system games for children, medical history exhibitions, and lab tours. Additionally, the German Rheumatism Research Centre (DRFZ), the Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology, and the Museum für Naturkunde are open. Tickets from €7.50 (concessions €5).
