Spring Festival in Hagen City Center

"Hagen blüht auf" is the spring festival of the large city of Hagen in South Westphalia. From May 7th to 10th, 2026 (Thursday to Sunday), the showmen of the Hagener Schaustellerverein 1907 e.V. will transform the entire city center into a festival ground. Under the motto "Awaken your spring feelings", rides, stalls, stages, and activity stands will be open for four days from 12 PM to 8 PM.

Program and Schedule

  • Thursday, May 7th, 2026 – Event start with all showmen and a colorful spring offering. 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
  • Friday, May 8th, 2026 – Official opening by Mayor Dennis Rehbein at 5:00 PM. Festival opening with a speech, after which the program officially begins.
  • Saturday, May 9th, 2026 – Main festival day with a packed stage program, showmen, and activities.
  • Sunday, May 10th, 2026 – Family day with Sunday shopping. Hagen's retail stores will open their doors.

Flower City Since May 1st

A special feature of Hagen's spring festival: The city has been decorated with flower baskets and spring plantings since May 1st. When the festival starts on May 7th, Hagen is visually prepared – flower baskets on lampposts, planted squares, a spring atmosphere. "Hagen blüht auf" thus lives up to its name quite literally.

What to See and Eat

  • Rides – Carousels, Ferris wheel variant, bumper cars, children's rides. The Hagen Showmen's Association as the organizer brings a proven mix.
  • Stage Program – Several daily sessions with cover bands, acoustic acts, and local artists.
  • Activity Stands – Local clubs, city marketing activities, Hagen retailers with outdoor stands.
  • Spring Gastronomy – Classic Volksfest (traditional folk festival) food, strawberry specialties, asparagus snacks, bratwurst, fries, almonds.

Hagener Schaustellerverein 1907 e.V.

The organizer is the Hagener Schaustellerverein 1907 e.V. – one of the oldest showmen's associations in Westphalia, which not only organizes the spring festival but also the Easter Kirmes (fair), the autumn festival, and the Haspe Summer Kirmes. A showmen tradition that has shaped the cityscape of Hagen for over 115 years.

Hagen – Gateway to the Sauerland

Hagen, with around 188,000 inhabitants, is the largest city in South Westphalia and lies on the southeastern edge of the Ruhr area – at the transition to the Sauerland. "Gateway to the Sauerland" is one of its epithets. The city center with the Volme-Galerie, the Theaterplatz, and the central pedestrian zone provides the backdrop for the spring festival, complemented by the city's extensive cultural offerings (Karl-Ernst-Osthaus-Museum, FernUniversität, Stadttheater).
