One of Bavaria's largest one-day markets on the High Feast of the Assumption of Mary
The Frautag in Jetzendorf dates back to a pilgrimage to the High Feast of the Assumption of Mary. For over 300 years, August 15th has been celebrated in the Upper Bavarian municipality in the Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm district. Over the centuries, the originally religious pilgrimage has become one of the largest one-day markets in Bavaria – the Catholic tradition of the Assumption of Mary, as a public holiday in the predominantly Catholic districts of Bavaria, is the reason why the festival is so massively attended in the middle of the week.
On Frautag itself, over 180 stallholders offer their goods along the main street and adjacent village roads. The market mile stretches for more than a kilometer through the village center. The market opens at 8:00 AM and officially runs until 6:00 PM. The assortment ranges from classic market necessities to household goods, clothing, tools, sweets, cheese, sausage, and regional specialties.
A dedicated children's amusement park with a carousel, swing boats, and a shooting gallery complements the market. Food and drinks are available all day. After the market closes at 6:00 PM, the festival moves to the party zone at the Maypole, where the festive day concludes in a convivial atmosphere.
Already on the eve (usually August 14th), the traditional Jetzendorf Night Flea Market starts in the late afternoon with festival and program activities. This is an additional reason that effectively makes Frautag a two-day major event.
Several village roads are traditionally closed for Frautag, including sections of district roads PAF7 and PAF3. Diversions will be signposted, and parking bans will be in effect within the village. Due to the expected visitor numbers, travel by bus or train from Pfaffenhofen is recommended.
The 2026 edition of Frautag is scheduled for Saturday, August 15th, 2026 – the High Feast of the Assumption of Mary and a public holiday in Bavaria in the predominantly Catholic districts. The market starts at 8:00 AM and officially runs until 6:00 PM; afterwards, the festival activities move to the party zone at the Maypole.
On the eve, Friday, August 14th, 2026, the traditional Jetzendorf night flea market opens in the late afternoon with festival and program activities. Those who want to experience Frautag in a relaxed manner should plan for both days.
Due to road closures on PAF7 and PAF3 and parking bans in the village, travel by bus or train is recommended.
Road closures on PAF7 and PAF3 from Thursday 4:00 PM to Saturday 6:00 AM, with signposted diversions.
