On the meadows along the Weth river, behind the church of Oberpleichfeld in the Lower Franconian district of Würzburg, SV Oberpleichfeld invites you every year at the beginning of August to its Fischfest (Fish Festival). For three days, Steckerlfisch (fish on a stick), smoked trout, salmon fillet, breaded plaice, and prawn skewers are the focus, complemented by Lángos, Palatschinken, and Franconian classics. With live music, a dance evening, Frühschoppen (morning pint), and a family-friendly club atmosphere, the festival is one of the most popular summer events in the Schweinfurt-Würzburg region.

The 33rd Fischfest an der Weth will take place from Saturday, August 1st, to Monday, August 3rd, 2026, in Oberpleichfeld. On the meadows along the Weth stream, behind the parish church and around the sports club house, SV Oberpleichfeld once again invites you for three days of fish, live music, and Frühschoppen.

For the 33rd edition, SV Oberpleichfeld is relying on its proven mix of traditional and new programme items. The focus is on the extensive fish grill offering with Steckerlfisch, smoked trout, salmon fillet, and breaded plaice, complemented by Lángos and Palatschinken.

On Saturday evening, a regional live band will play dance music in the festival tent, and Sunday will start with a Frühschoppen featuring brass music. For families, there will be a dedicated children's programme with a wheel of fortune and play stations right by the stream. Monday will conclude the festival with a more relaxed atmosphere.

Getting There

Oberpleichfeld is located about 15 kilometres north-east of Würzburg in the district of Würzburg. By car via the A 7 (Estenfeld exit) or the B 19. Bus 41 runs hourly from Würzburg Hbf station to Oberpleichfeld; the Oberpleichfeld stop is about 200 metres from the festival grounds. Parking is available on the outskirts of the village.

Admission to the Fischfest is free. Food and drinks are sold at stands and in the festival tent at club-typical prices.

Tips

The festival grounds on the meadows can get damp in the rain – sturdy footwear is recommended. Those who want to experience the Frühschoppen on Sunday should arrive before 11 a.m. Families will find a relaxed programme, especially on Sunday afternoons.

Summer Festival by the Stream

The Fischfest an der Weth has been organised by SV Oberpleichfeld e. V. since the early 1990s. The venue is the meadows along the Weth stream, which flows through the municipality of Oberpleichfeld in the Lower Franconian district of Würzburg in the state of Bavaria. The festival grounds are located directly behind the parish church and around the sports club house at Rothweg 5. Three days of festivities – from Friday evening to Sunday – attract guests from the entire Main Franconian region and beyond.

Fish in All Variations

As the festival name suggests, the menu focuses on fish specialities: the Bavarian classic Steckerlfisch (whole mackerel on a wooden stick grilled over open embers), smoked trout, grilled salmon fillet, breaded plaice, and prawn skewers. In addition, there are Hungarian specialities such as Lángos and Palatschinken, as well as classic Franconian bratwurst, fries, and a selection of cakes. A dedicated fish grilling team is in action daily and is one of the festival's biggest attractions.

Programme and Atmosphere

Friday evening traditionally kicks off with a band night featuring dance music in the festival tent. On Saturday, live bands from the region play from the late afternoon onwards; the day concludes with a long festival night. Sunday is dedicated to Frühschoppen with brass music, followed by lunch and a relaxed end to the festival in the afternoon. For families, there are play stations for children, a wheel of fortune, and a tombola.

SV Oberpleichfeld is one of the pillars of village life. The Fischfest is its most important self-organised event and significantly finances the club's sports departments and youth work.
